another job finished

my daughter has a beloved retro coat. However, the coat outlived the lining which had fallen to pieces. "Please Mum do you think you could fix it for me?" So now the coat has a new lining and a new lease on life and it may keep someone warm for another 40 years.

A wonderful image and lovely story behind it! It's always so special to have something done for you by a loved one . . . I'm sure every time your daughter wears that coat she will feel your love.

How lucky that your daughter has you to fix her coat for her.

I was always taught, when growing up, to "fix" something, before throwing it out. Kids growing up these days don't seem to have the skills or inclination to do that. Easier to throw it out and get a new one!! I taught my kids that, but they still throw it out and get new things!! However, if they happen to like something really well, such as a retro coat, they don't think twice to come ask me to fix it for them!! LOL Putting a lining in a coat is no easy task and your daughter I am sure will love and wear this coat for another 40 years!! Things of yesteryear are always made so much better than these days! Great B/W and lovely coat!! If ever your daughter doesn't want it, you now know where to find someone who does!! FAV!

@cashew thanks Kathy for you lovely comments and fav. Your right about the quality of things these days and it sure is a throw away society. Ive just found out that because I didnt charge my Kindle for a few months the battery is now permanently dead and would cost more to replace than to buy a new one. (I'm not going to bother)

This brings very lovely memories to me. My dad was a tailor - men's cloths - and he continued working till he was around 90 years old. He was known all over Sliema and beyond. My mother-in-law was also an expert in this - she used to sew even wedding dresses. You must be talented, too, I know how difficult it is to replace linings.

@sangwann what wonderful memories to have and how amazing that your Dad was able to do what he enjoyed for so long. I was rather daunted by the task but enjoyed the challenge. I had to take out the old lining in pieces and try to make the new pattern from what I could salvage.
