The Clipper ship the City of Adelaide is the oldest clipper ship in the world. In 1864 she was specially designed to bring English, Scottish, Cornish, Irish, Danish and other migrants to Australia. It is calculated that a quarter of a million Australians can trace their family back to an ancestor who came here on this ship. She ended her sailing days in 1893 and after being used as a training ship and floating hospital she sank in Glasgow dock in 1990. She was rescued from the River Irvine in Scotland and after cleaning and fumigation was transported via Rotterdam in a special cradle to Adelaide where she arrived on 3rd February. http://cityofadelaide.org.au
