OK I will put you all out of your misery. They are Pistachios!!! they grow on a tree which can get to 10m tall. They need male and female trees to produce the fruit which comes every two years and they are actually related to the mango - so Sierra Nicole's was the closest answer.
check out trusty old Google to learn more I did. there's a video to show you how they are roasted etc. thanks for joining in my little game
@joemuli very clever!! actually they are pistachios. Never seen them on a tree before. they grow here in Australia and I believe in California. They are classed as a fruit and are each about 1/2" long. they do look like mini mangoes.
I've never seen pistachios on the tree, though I've bought them directly from the farm stall. Never even imagined they looked like this. Love the photo.
@nefrit amazing isnt it. how we often eat things and dont know what they look like berfore we get them in a bag. went to visit a chocolate factory recently and was shown a cocoa pod to hold and shake. didnt realise how big they were and that they are roasted and the chocolate is made from the little seed things inside.
Thanks for showing us this. Not in my wildest dreamest would have guessed them to be pistachios! Will read more on the google guru. I was patiently waiting for you to tell.
@achoris i was intrigued when I saw these trees and had to ask someone what they were. I then googled them and learned so much more. Using my camera every day is pushing me to see more of what is around me
