The Native Aster has a way of predicting the first frost or first freeze. When the aster is all of the way bloomed out, the first freeze or frost is very near. If the blossoms start out at the end of the branches, we usually get a hard freeze first. If the blossoms start out near the middle of the branches, we get frosts first. The blossoming seems to change as the upcoming weather changes and approaches. I am not certain of the accuracy of the blossoming of the native aster. However, I can use it as a general guideline for my Autumn gardening tasks. Therefore, I have been very busy in preparing my garden for the upcoming colder weather.
