This big wasp is known as a digger wasp and as a cicada killer wasp. It does kill cicadas. It does dig a burrow into the ground. I got close to this wasp to take its picture. Then, I realized that I might get hurt by this wasp. From what I read, this kind of wasp is not aggressive unless you handle it roughly. I could tell that this wasp was watching me. Fortunately, he did not mind having his picture taken.
@stefneyhart Thank you for your comments and for your fav. I saw some more of these today and they were not friendly. I was not brave enough to even try to take any pictures of today's wasps.
