Went on a bit of a drive today and decided to stop at the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee Wildlife Reserve. Hoped to spot a few birds or alligators even. I did see a few birds and enjoyed the photos I took of them. However, this plant really got my attention! Looked just like Santa Claus to me! I don't even know what it is.
Was a bit eerie listening to the alligators and their mating calls. I couldn't see the alligators and only could hope not to accidentally be near one. I didn't linger!
It is s a really interesting plant. Cant say I have seen one like this before. Love the colours...it reminded me of a lacey petticoat..lol. Love the contrast from the soft pinks to the background green and I think you even captured a little bit of a web also.
@dreams Thanks, Karen. Yes, the web seems to be using the bottom of the flower as an anchor. I have never seen this type of flower before. The color drew me to it and I immediately saw the Santa face! Or petticoat!
@lynnb Thanks, Lynn! It was on a tall stalk growing in the marshy areas. I thought it was sawgrass, but sawgrass doesn't flower (to my knowledge). I guess I have something to learn!
Flower has now been identified!
