Today, we ventured to the James Deering estate of Vizcaya in Miami. He built this home in the 1910's, first using it as a winter residence in 1916 until his death in 1925. It is such a beautiful home. The "middle" of the three story home is actually a type of atrium with a glass roof. That area alone must be about 2000 square feet, complete with fountains and palm trees. The gardens are vast. I have no idea how many acres it all covers. I will spend the next several days posting some photos.
The Deerings were one of the country's wealthiest families. He developed farm machinery that helped harvest grain much quicker, therefore much more profitable for the farmer. His company went on to become International Harvester.
