Went on another canal walk earlier today and in between the heavy showers we were experiencing I managed to catch some shots of various fishermen sitting it out.
It's funny to think that people would spend an entire day, weekend or indeed week, outside waiting for a bite, alone and in silence.
There must ultimately be something that captures the imagination of those that do this.
It makes for good photography? Great shot Darren...the green umbrella is wonderful! Love the reflection in the canal. Is it also cold? If it ins't cold and windy I don't mind the rain so much....we get so much of it!! MUCH prefer sunshine however!
Great idea for word of the day, Darren. Ray is always puzzled (being a rambling, tennis, swimming man himself) to see people sitting waiting for a fish but as you say it must capture the imagination of some folk! Tranquility probably?
Lovely colors. I used to enjoy fishing with my father when I was young. We fished for large mouth bass, which involves much more action as you are repeatedly casting and reeling. My sister would go trout fishing with him, which is much more subdued and requires more patience. I have wonderful memories of fishing with my dad.
It's meditation, only I don't think fishermen (people) would use that word. Enjoying the time in solitude or the quiet company of another person without all of the noise that's constantly battering at our ears. Peace. I love this picture and what it represents. By the way, someone just said to me, "Why are you taking a picture of that?" "Waste of time." hummm........
I've never really 'got' it either, but there must be something appealing about it as I read once that it's the UK's most popular hobby (?!). Love the big green umbrella in this and the wet brickwork.
We were in this rain on Saturday too whilst on vacation - not fun!! I'm amazed at the patience of these fishermen - great capture of a vacation pastime.
I used to do a lot of fishing some years ago.. but I was doing sea angling. Lots more action.... you usually get lots of fish too (free dinners ;-) Great capture Darren
