Breaking All My Rules! by darylo

Breaking All My Rules!

I tell people sometimes I am a "protocol junkie." In work, especially, I like to be practical, I like to establish a routine, I like to communicate effectively, and I am happy to be the one to set and follow work flow protocols!

But in my creative life, I'm impatient, I like to work in the moment, and I get very easily distracted, and for the most part, I can roll with the flow or change directions at a second's notice.

This collage is an example of my protocol junkie meeting my creative "oh, I like the bokeh in my one and only image I took yesterday; wouldn't it be cool if I could just clone and repeat some of it in Photoshop?" I had told myself to watch PS videos to establish a baseline tool/knowledge set, a work flow that I could depend on, and to learn how to save things efficiently. Instead, I sat at my computer today to load yesterday's image and then went down the rabbit hole to figure out the clone stamp.

I think I know why some people love and dislike me in the end. I have the same self-admiration and loathing alas.

Aside from all of that. I am still working on learning the basics as I see how ridiculous my side venture went today. The image on the left is my image edited in LR Classic. The image on my right is an image I edited in PS with one layer being the clone stamp tool, saved it as a TIFF. I then converted it to a jpeg on computer (it flattened out the image--then a side rabbit hole venture to why my image looked flat). I then reloaded the TIFF into LR, then saved it as a jpeg. Then I tried to make a Word version of the two side by side, and I thought, ugh, a screenshot won't work. So I searched collage in PS and found PS Express. There, I made this collage.

This entire narrative is to share that I think I'm fractured (good or bad), and it illuminates my own struggles as someone who will stick to my guns in the corporate world where everyone follows the rules, but in my personal space, I'm the least orderly person on the planet (the 5 loads of laundry I finally addressed yesterday and the messy bedroom I cleaned in my house is a testament to that).

I'm using this space for today's photo, but I'll load the original in LR for yesterday's original. This collage represents day 5.

Who needs a hot dog? Ha!

Hot dog! I think you are entirely too hard on yourself. Both photos look fabulous to me and without having one to compare to the other I wouldn’t know the difference

@grammyn I'm just mad at myself for making things harder. I need to stay the course and learn the basics! If only my teacher self could reach my student self. Haha

There seems to be such a small difference that my lazy self says keep with LR! 🤣🤣🤣 Sorry that doesn’t help does it? I am stuck in PS where I make all the changes - I only use the clone tool and then save the image but it does not go back into LR! I have lost the changes. I get bored trying to solve this and give up and go back to LR! I need a teacher to show me the solution!

@pamknowler Using the new LR after using LR5 for many years, the program is unbelievably wonderful! I'm thinking of gifting myself an Adobe Classroom book for PS. Maybe it will make more sense if I actually follow along as one would in a course! If I can figure out the workflow back and forth, I'll let you know!
