Still Playing

I went upstairs before all natural light left (to get another crack at a water crown--my upstairs bathroom is rather bright at certain times). I also shot my ISO up to 6400 just to try it. Then, I set up my tripod and it was a disaster--all in my tub-I was too high and the angle was all wrong. I decided to scrap the tripod, lie down in the tub, hope I didn't get too close and just snap the heck away. And, here is a crown. A lousy, hand held crown, but I'm learning more as I play with the set up. I need a stage to get the tray up higher so I can use the tripod. I need tons of light (I might get lamps in on this) to increase the shutterspeed and lower the ISO--too much noise in processing (but it was worth the try--tomorrow I'll try it when the light is at its peak in the room).

Hope this helps anyone. Once you get the set-up right, I imagine you can get any number of excellent crowns as long as the source is exactly in the same spot (that's why I like the faucet).

Ok, back to sick girl and getting the mountain of laundry done. Feel free to critique. Just messing with "concept" and "set-up." I know it's pants. :)

If you want to see the water drop I caught this morning: http://365project.org/darylo/365/2013-12-17
Excellent, great framing!

There's something endearing about it! ;)

Love it... and yeah, I found that lighting, speed of the shutter and drop in the same spot are all vital pointers in making a good crown.

Cool! I'm impressed. Love the little wiggles in your crown.

Oh well done - I have visions of you in the bath taking this shot!! Great result especially hand held!! This is something I want to do before I finish my year - I had better get a move on!!

@pamknowler It was quite the sight. The key is light, a reliable source with exact same spot for drop location, and a fast shutter. I wish I had a remote shutter release too, but alas. Using a tripod will really make it much better. I would like a good one before end of year; if not, I have at least gotten in some practice! I cannnnnnooooooot believe I'm almost done. 2 weeks left. That's it!

This is a neat result! I've never tried to do a crown--looks hard. I might try one next year!

So pretty and a really nice crown capture! Looks like you got it down!

I hope someone got a photo you getting this photo. I especially like the ripply center of the crown.

@rvwalker At this point, my photo antics rarely capture a raised eyebrow in this house these days. My daughter was in and out of the room and didn't even think it was odd to have a mom lying in the tub with water dripping in a dish. :)

Great shot for hand-held! You'll get the perfect shot soon, I'm sure ;)

Thank you for sharing all the info on what led to you capturing this. I think it will be things just like this image and your taking the time to explain the process... that will become really helpful to me. :)

This is so wonderful. Funny, I was looking at the water drip off my bathtub faucet this morning and thought the best way was just to lie in the tub and try it. I have't done this yet but I will.
