Going Down... I took this shot last week when I was trying to capture a sign for the "Give Me Direction Challenge" just on the foot rails of the escalator at the mall, and I missed. So I used my phone (because I didn't have my DSLR with me) to capture a shot as I went down. A pretty dull photo--typical day-in-the-life work for a photo project!
I was going to delete it, but I decided today to work with it some in my phone (Samsung S3) and then in LR5. So I started with an app called "Globe Photo" which basically makes those circular photos (last year, I thought people were doing those in some miraculous way--just an app on a phone!). Anyway, I loaded the "going down" perspective--a blah photo, and then it "globed" it for me.
After I got that, I sent it via email to myself, downloaded it to my computer and "added" it to LR! I then worked on it there, making it black and white, playing with the filters, upping the luminance (to avoid the noise from the camera), and cropping it some to a bit off-center. I then exported it, creating a new folder for abstracts and adding it to the LR5 catalogue. HELLO! I just did all that without experiencing a headache, and guess what? I still haven't read my awesome LR5 $50 book yet. Ugh. I'm so dumb. But I got it! I got it! :)
I'm rather pleased with a blah phone photo turned abstract! It has a fan-like quality in the top and a muted circular grill thing going below.
The lesson? Everything has potential! :) Or......Hot Dog!
@markp Did it in minutes. Really easy. The globe thing is instant. Lr was a quick pick BW hi-contrast red filter, crop, contrast, a few sliders with "gray levels", luminance smoothing. Done.
Wow! Thank you so much for sharing with us how you did this....before I joined this project I was pretty much oblivious to the vast array of processing techniques. This is such an eye catching abstract shot....but you can still recognise that it's an escalator.
@vfox I took my time and worked my way up with and I am so glad I did. I like to tell folks what I have done sometimes because I really loved learning from others in year one. All about spreading the love! Thanks for the visit today!
Wow Daryl this is a fabulous abstract which makes you look twice and then again! I haven't used the globe app - must investigate! Wonderful processing! How far you have come in your confidence and ability! Big fat Fav from me!
Totally awesome!! I love this shot and I think you are so right about any photo (or many photos, maybe), having potential. And I did laugh to myself as I also thought those circular planet shots were so magical until I discovered the App. Still, I find the app is not that easy to use if you want something out of the ordinary -- and to me that is what you've accomplished. Fav!
Thanks for sharing the process, it always helps and shows how much hard work goes into our projects! I really like this photo, it is so graphic and I think b&w suits it. Following and fav..
