The Bridge over the Lagoon by deborahsimmerman

The Bridge over the Lagoon

An iconic Boston scene: the bridge over the Lagoon in the Public Garden and the swan boats plying the waters, as they have since 1877.

It was very crowded today around town because it's Labor Day weekend and the students are back for the start of the academic year next week. The colleges have all been having "move in day." It's a turning point in our year here in Boston as we really are one big college town.
What an interesting little spot in Boston - almost looks like it belongs in Japan. You're really expanding my knowledge of a city I thought I once knew.

Thank you so much for your interest and all your comments on my New England scenes. I see that you are originally from New York; so am I, but I adopted New England forty years ago and love it completely and would not live anywhere else in the US.

I've lived in Boston since 1985, and the city just gets better and more livable all the time. I thought I wanted to move to Maine or back to Cape Ann when I retired two years ago, but now I'm not sure. I'm having such a good time in Boston now that I'm free and on the loose in the city!

This scene in the Public Garden, however, has not changed. The bridge and the swan boats have been there since the 19th century. That's one of the many things I love about New England--much of it is well preserved and has not changed.
