I drove home from Connecticut a different way, through the quiet, rural northeastern corner of the state. Among other things, I wanted to stop at Mrs. Bridges' Pantry, a tea room owned by an English woman. It's in a rustic wooden building in South Woodstock, near some antique shops. I think it's rather charming inside. I had a nice pot of Taylors of Harrogate Assam tea and a delicious piece of spice cake.
When I'm in England, I adore the tea rooms and have lunch or tea in one every day. Here there aren't many real tea rooms, so it's a big deal to go to one. Unfortunately not too many Americans really appreciate tea rooms. I was the only one at Mrs. Bridges', sitting alone in this dining area. I hope they get more customers other times of day.
Lovely, I wonder if she named it after an old TV programme called " Upstairs Downstairs"? It was about life above & below stairs in big Victorian/Edwardian household & the cook was called Mrs Bridges!
You are probably right! I didn't know about Mrs. Bridges. "Upstairs Downstairs" was on TV here too, but I didn't watch it. Very likely the tea room lady would have known about that Mrs. Bridges.
Thank you for telling me about this. I will change the location of the apostrophe in "Bridges."
