I was on my way to Whole Foods market; I often walk there the long way, via the pond. On the plaza by the dock and boathouse was a street piano--they're back! This program sets out old upright pianos, decorated by artists and school kids and others, in public places around the city for a few weeks in the fall. Anyone is welcome to sit down and play, and it's fun when you hear someone playing. A small child sat down and pretended to play while I was there. I would have liked to take the photo with her but would have had to ask permission of her mother.
Has anyone seen a program like this in your area? I seem to think the idea for this originated in Europe.
I love the street pianos and this one is particularly colourful. We had one around in our neighbourhood last summer but I didn't see it this summer. I think they are just wonderful.
My daughter just told me that they've tried this in a town near us in the park - where they have set out two pianos for anyone to play. Seems like a real cool idea to me. Love the colors here.
I'm in Boston.
