I was downtown on this bright sunny day and passed the Old State House, here seen from the side, surrounded by much taller office buildings.
It's considered to be the most important pre-Revolutionary building in America. Built in 1713, it was the seat of royal government and also the home of the Massachusetts Assembly. The American Revolution is said to have begun here, and in July 1776 the Declaration of Independence was proclaimed from the balcony on the east side (around the corner to the left in this view). The lion and unicorn statues on the façade were torn down at that time, but they're back now and I like to look up at them as I pass.
There's a museum in the building now, and I have to admit that I've never been in it, as often happens when you live in a place and don't see the sights visitors see. I do intend to go in there some day soon.
