I found this bunch of roses marked "Garden Roses" at Whole Foods on Friday, and I recognized that they were rather special, although they were only $10 for some reason, less than the ordinary florist roses. When I was arranging them at home, I discovered a little tag attached to a stem, indicating that these are the David Austin rose called "Carey."
I'm so pleased. I have several books about David Austin's roses, but they are not generally available around here as cut flowers and I've never had them before. I had just recently received the Vintage Roses book from England, with many of David Austin's roses featured.
The sun was pouring into our tall, south-facing living room windows this Sunday morning, and it was lovely sitting and drinking tea and talking with Peter, with the roses on the table in front of me.
