I walked home from Whole Foods a different way this afternoon. I haven't been on this street for some time. This large house is set on a little hill, a rocky outcropping really, and it looms over the street. It's much larger than the surrounding houses. I love that round porch, both above and below.
I'm never bored walking around the streets in this neighborhood because of my interest in houses. There was a great deal of building here in the second half of the nineteenth century and around the turn of the twentieth century, and those are my favorite periods of American architecture.
Today we set a record for the hottest February day ever recorded in Boston -- 73 degrees F (average for this day is around 40)! Although it was lovely in a way, I don't like it. It's disorienting to suddenly be catapulted two or three months ahead into April or May weather. I don't like what all these record highs say about the climate either.
Last week I was taking photos of the iced over Pond, and today the ice was gone completely and the water looked a springy blue. I love winter and don't want to lose it yet.
