Hunua ranges by dide

Hunua ranges

NZ's native forests have an incredible issue with introduced species. One of the biggest problems are possums, which strip the trees and prevent them from flowering and reproducing. Along with the possums, stoats, weasels and ferrets eat the eggs and young of many bird species. You can see in a couple of these images, some traps and bait stations to try to control these pests.
Nicely captured collage

Your woodlands are so lovely, love that there are so many evergreens, if still looks beUtuful in the winter unlike our bare branches! I have never seen a possum all the times I have been to NZ!

Lovely collage. Sad tale of the introduced pests, we've a few here too.

Why do we always do that. Introduce one species to deter another and then the one introduced becomes an issue.

I like that your collage tells a story of the work to solve the problems you listed.

@happypat most common place to see them is squashed on the road! They are nocturnal and you’d never know there was any in the bush as you wander through.
