The Canon 100 IS is an amazing cam. I'm so happy with it. Check out my pictures, I use it if my EOS is to big to bring. And it makes great HD videos as well!
I have the Canon Powershot G12 and I love it. Has the flip screen which is a plus. I mainly shoot with my DSLR but this camera comes in handy when I can't bring my DSLR. Here's a picture I took with the G12 indoors with just the kitchen lights and no flash. It's definitely not slim so it's somewhat in between a DSLR and a slim P&S.
I'd recommend that you DO NOT get a Sony p&s. I bought one a few years ago and after a year, it started vibrating when I turn it on. I googled it and it's a problem that's common with Sony p&s.
I got a Canon SD1300IS about a month ago and so far I'm pretty happy with it... added bonus it was relatively cheap.
I've had 2 panasonic Lumix cameras, (only got the one now as I have my SLR and decided I didn't need my bridge camera). I love panasonic. If I was getting another p&s it would prob be panasonic again. I've had fuji which was really good but aa batteries ran away eventually. Nikon is also fab but more expensive.
I find what I do when I buy a camera is look online for reviews and compare them before I buy.
I have a canon powershot sx120, I love it and it cost £99.. It does everything I could want ( for now) you can set everything manually, it's robust and ideal for learning, I took the shots with it..
I love my Canon Power Shot sx30! I researched for about 2 months online before choosing this particular camera. I was looking for something that would give me great zoom ability, this one has an awesome ultra zoom lens!! It will give you a great zoom in shot of the moon... Check out my Canon photos to see! :)
i keep a nikon coolpix s4000 with me in a belt pouch. it is not too bulky, good images, and even can do video if i need to grab a clip in a pinch. that and the touch screen is a fun shiny that i like playing with (its the geek in me) i got it on a whim and m very happy with it. i have had other PS in the past that were bigger, but found that the bulky made it harder to carry around. also it is light enough i have been able to hand hold it at 1 second shutter to get a few neat shots. was a shot that i took with it.
Had the Canon 640 with variable angled screen now have the Canon G12 with same - and I'm beside myself...I'm so happy. Its small enough to get into a baggy pocket or a handbag ... but big enough to take the most amazing pics - plus it has loads of options and settings including a built in macro. For me it's a win win in every which way.
