Macro Lens..help.

I'm looking into making an investment on a Macro lens to use with my Canon Rebel T2i. Do you have any suggestions of lenses you use? Do you know anything about that 100mm f/2.8 Lens that I've been looking at?

@gavincci --Thanks so much!

i use a Tamron 60mm Macro f/2 on my 60 D. Great tack sharp lens and the bonus is you get a fantastic portrait lens. Literature says nothing touches it at any price!
Good luck

@toddmark -- Wow! I'll look into that and read up on it. I'm not familiar with that lens.

I love the 100 2.8. Don't go less than an 80mm - prior to this I had a smaller macro lens and it didn't work very well to get as close as I wanted.

@sueb - Thanks for that tip!

The Canon 100mm 2.8 is a great lens in both iterations, the L series may be slightly sharper but IS is only helpful when handheld outside of macro range. If you don't need it get the cheaper one and save 300 or so dollars. With a home made diffuser and the on camera flash you can get exceptional macro images.

i ue a tamron 75-300 i find the my little canon powershot takes even better close ups i still take it with me even when out with big cam

@robv - Thanks for the tip! @shenay - I have a small Sony Powershot 14mp point and shoot and I'm finding that it takes better macros...but I'm hoping getting a lens will help me with that.

@lysslyss508 the diddy cameras do take better closeups iv been in the camera shops checking out stuff and they just say same thing it all depends on light as well

Alyssa, I have a Tamron 90mm 2.8 lens and love it. A considerable savings from a Canon lens, and while I can't compare the two, I have no complaints about the Tamron.

@kimbitner -- Awesome. Thanks. I've noticed the prices are greatly different, but I wasn't sure how good the Tamron lenses are.

I'm another very satisfied Tamron 90mm 2.8 user. It's the best budget-brand lens I've have used. The only downside for me is that AF struggles in low light situations (but once it locks on, it's accurate).

@davidchrtrans -- Thanks so much for this input. I've been reading reviews on this Tamron and it seems to be a good one!

@lysslyss508 No problem.

If you check my close up series from the week of 17th January, all of those shots there were done with the Tamron 90mm (except the shots from Tuesday and Sunday).

@davidchrtrans - Your shots are great! Thanks for your help!
