In short, unless you actually put it in your Description field when you post the image (or add CR but I don't think everyone knows that convention), people will default in providing positive messages. The whole "If you haven't got something nice to say, best not to say anything at all" is the general philosophy here.
@thandu too funny! I feel a bit poultryish today. When you describe your picture in the box you can say something about looking for critiques or opinions, etc.
@davidtom@thandu There used to be a tag you could use if you are looking for constructive criticism - I assume it's still in use, if you tag your photos with " critique-me " then I think people will give you the kind of feedback you're looking for... worth a try.
Yes for a while there I remembered to put CW (critique welcome) on all my images but keep forgetting. People are usually very polite around here :) Including myself, I don't want to offend people! @davidtom what is CR? Critique requested? I haven't heard of that one but obviously it's a thing too ...
People are afraid to come across rude, or hurtful. When I started this project many years ago I had someone who followed me and actually said what he liked and didn't like. I'm sure he didn't say everything he could have at the time. My first reaction was that it bothered me - I was so proud of my photo (which in reality really stunk). But then I realized how fortunate I really was to have someone tell it like it is (in moderation). That has really helped me so much.
