Just noticed there's something new in the menu bar - the most popular cameras here on 365... But I'm kind of surprised that it's really the iPhone that's ranking on #1, with a huge distance to the next one. Makes you wonder where photography is heading to these days... Are smart phones the cameras of the future?
@scatochef : Yes, the D90 is very popular, I know some folks who are very happy with that one! @sharonaddison : Yes, Hipstamatic and several other photo apps... I agree it's interesting, and I love the effects. In the beginning, I was a huge fan of these hipstamatic shots. Meanwhile, I have to admit I'm feeling slightly overdosed...
Small discrepancy however, in that it hasn't been clever enough to merge some of the cameras together - the Canon Eos Rebel XSi is the same as the Canon Eos Rebel 450D, just with a different badge on it for the American market. This is the same as the 500D, 550D and the 600D, each of which feature "twice".
@cally : Good point! Yes, I think they should be merged... Besides, I always find it complicated to find out which of the European and American camera models are the same, it's really confusing!
I have a D90 and love every bit of it. Its so perfect but then i see the iphone pictures it makes me wonder WTF. Its the applications that makes the pictures so appealing not the camera. Even mobile cams a good but the only thing that matters is the post processing to me.
@shadowdancer Shadow, I think yours is #20 because it's called Rebel something in the US. There are more users of the same camera, but they are split...
@dkg Thanks - that makes sense. Hipstamatic seems to get everywhere at the moment. What a shame that an app developer decides to hijack the Exif and skew the stats.
@harveyzone@dkg is correct. 231 was the previous iteration of Hipstamatic. 235 has just been released and has some nifty new features so I am sure it will be on the list soon.
I use my Droid (smartphone) almost exclusively for this project. For me, 365 is less about photography and more about opening my eyes to the beauty and interest around me. I think I have become better at framing and capturing shots, but I've also been very consistent with the project because I use a "camera" that is always with me.
I don't participate in these discussions, although I sometimes read a thread or two (obviously, because here I am now!), partially because I don't think my 365 goals match those of the most prolific posters/participants. Still, it is fascinating to know what the many reasons are that people have for engaging with 365 (and not engaging with the community).
I think it might be the case where a lot of people work, and they may not carry their camera around with them at all times. I only take my camera out with me if I know I want to be taking photos. But a lot of the time, if I'm out without a camera and see something, I have no choice but to capture it with my iPhone... I know a lot of people do this...
I have a question about the camera feature here in general, why does it show up on some accounts, and not on others? I've seen a lot of people whose camera info is blank, mine included.
@ariananeala What camera do you use? I think it all varies whether you've copied and pasted your image onto a file for editing, the way you edit and the way you save.... This is what I've read previously anyway x
@ariananeala It gets it from the Exif data stored in the image file, but some editing software will strip it out, and some devices (older ones, or phone cameras for example) do not put it in to start with.
@jodielianne@harveyzone Thanks, I shoot canon 60d and edit with LR and CS5, I just thought it was odd because my exit data shows up on other sites, Flickr and deviantart for example. Same pictures posted here too. not a big deal, just curious. :)
@ariananeala When you edit with Lightroom and CS5, do you save one edit, and then open with the other program, or do you just copy from one to the other? It could be something to do with that. x
Yes, that's very interesting to see the Iphone as #1. It makes me realize that maybe for a lot of 365ers.........it's about documenting their day. And since they have their phones all the time......this is the most convenient thing to do.
@ariananeala I noticed that whenever I make collages......the exif info is stripped out.
I have a Canon 450D but in North America it's called the Rebel XSi. It's the exact same camera though, but the figures are split between the two cameras. Interesting!
@kjarn Hi Kathy, I have the nex-5, I love it, though it's menus are less than intuitive. All the compact interchangeable lens cameras are really good these days and I'd be stumped to pick the best, but when I got mine it was def the NEX. I wish I'd known they'd take there time realeasing other lenses I may hav gone straight to a dslr. I also bought an adapter for it so i could use other lenses, however, that too was in short supply and after waiting over a month for it I cancelled my order. I think maybe it was all bad timing, the Japanese earthquake really affected Sony's production so just as I was outgrowing what the NEX could do I couldn't upgrade a lens or anything. I ended up buying the whole canera again just to get the 18-200 zoom (it was in hong kong airport and cost the same as buying the lens on its own in the uk), when I took that lens in as part ex for my canon they bit my hand off cos u just can't get them over here. I now just use the nex with the 18-55 it came with as my nifty p&s and I still love the quality of the images, it's a great camera! There are also some great lens in the pipeline which is great news too.
@charli321 thanks for that. I use my p&s purely in auto mode so anything the NEX has to offer would be new for me. I've done a lot of research and the NEX 7N is coming out on top constantly plus they now take normal Sd cards and yes they are now making lots of lenses for them. I've done nothing about buying one because they are still in very short supply now due to the recent floods in Thailand.

Where's the love for the Sony Alpha's? :(
I still love D90
Here's the direct link. http://365project.org/cameras
Nice you mentionned the new item though, I hadn't notice before...interesting!!
BTW, I love my D90 too ;-) Glad to see it's #2 :-)
Perhaps the camera counting system is not complete yet!

Disappointed to see my camera at number 12 lol x
