Well not begging, just asking. I am going to be taking a class of 13/14 year old boys from September, I will be teaching them basic photography and design. The main problem I have is a lack of digital cameras, so, do you;
1- live in the UK (I'm concerned about postage costs from another country)
2- have an old digital camera that you no longer use that I could have?
3- It would need to be in working order, have a battery and charger and hopefully a memory card.
You never know I may inspire the next Max Dupain!! ; )
Heres hoping,
Lorraine : )
ps I will forward my school address so you know it will actually go there, and I'm not on some money making scheme ; )
I'll take a look, but I think they went at the last clear out.
They'll probably have better cameras on their mobile phones than I'll find in the loft though. ;)
Thanks HH, I agree about the phones but it'll give them an excuse to message each other and argue the point when they have them out in other classes, so in school it'll be cameras!! Fingers crossed here ; ))
Just a thought lorraine... alot of kids have a mobile phone these days and these often have camera functionality... you could possibly get them to use these?
I have done something similar using cheap special offer digital cameras whenever I could pick them up being sold off. But then again, I'm in an alternative education unit with smaller numbers.
there are a number of £10 - £14 second-hand cameras currently on Amazon if you google - the sort of cameras I bought were £35 - £40 from various supermarket sales - at the time they were listed at £80 to £120 on Amazon. it's worth keeping an eye out when you're shopping.
I've been teaching the AQA Art and Design Entry Level - and used the cameras for this year's compulsory graphics project and the mirrors and reflections unit.
@shanne Thanks Shanne, I will get a (minimal) budget but I'm hoping that will be for printing and supplies, although I do agree I could pick up some cheap second hand ones on Amazon or Ebay if I get desperate.
Is entry level a 2 year course, I need to look into a certificate for them to make them feel that its worth their time, I just need some time to do some research. I'll be teaching graphics next year too! : )
I reckon you need a least a year to do the Art & Design Course properly - it's very much GCSE light, and a pain to get them up to EL3. You'll be on the new specification - which ties in nicely to the GCSE. Nothing is compulsory next year, but you could do the Mirrors and Reflection unit with photography if you wanted.
There's a graphics option in the Design and Technology AQA Entry Level. I looked at it.
lol. Another thought.. i know that some companies (both consumer AND the producers like canon and nikon themselves) sometimese to sponsor schools etc... you could try to contact them and see?

Good luck with the class.

@boogie I'm not sure yet Mags, I'll decide on that later on : )
@toast Thanks but as I said I think there will be too many other issues, unless I get them to sign a contract, haha ; )
@cdonohoue Thanks Cathy, although it has given me an idea, I'll write to or visit a few local shops to see if they can donate some old ones : ))
