@allisonrap I tried the Incense stick and disco lighting today and was gutted with what I had taken. I done the project in a shed with dim lighting, with the flash on it killed the coloured lighting, without the flash my shutter speed was rather lazy.
Can anyone give me some advice on this please..Bazza
you would be very lucky to get a shot like that with dim coloured lighting the camera would never let enough light in to get anywhere near a crisp shot. the majority of coloured smoke shots are achieved post process by taking a regular well lit white smoke shot and either overlaying a coloured gradient or colourising and tweeking the image, if you do find a way of doing it SOOC in low light I for one would love to know but I wouldn't hold out much hope.
Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture: f/7.1
ISO Speed: 100
Focal Length: 60 mm
I put a black cloth behind the incense stick, and I used 1 light (although I did some shots using 2 lights.....placing them in different positions, and it didn't make an awful lot of difference) above and off to the side of the smoke, and my camera flash. Hope that helps :-)
@bazza the room was quite bright when I took the shot....I used one eico bulb and my on camera flash, and as @asrai previously mentioned, I tweeked the shot and added a tint to it post process :-)
@asrai@grizzlysghost@allisonrap@humphreyhippo Thank you so much for your replys. I will try out the things you have told me about when I get some time and look forward to doing so..:-))
I did my shots in complete darkness. I used an off camera flash with a snoot to direct the light and the I bounced the flash off a white piece of cardboard. I also used a big maglite and shined it on the smoke to give it some flare.
I added a gradient effect to my shots, just because I thought it looked neat, not because the smoke was unclear. @asrai@bazza

I hope you get your shot @bazza with the help of our fellow 365ers.

Here's one example:
I have no idea how to do this Bazza, but look forward to seeing what you come up with!
