Zooming

August 23rd, 2012
So, I tried zooming. If you're familiar with Eddie Izzard, "is this good squeezy, squeezy, or bad squeezy, squeezy"? Seriously, any critical comments welcome. What are the best settings for zooming (how long is a piece of string)? Do you have any of your own zooming photos you can share, and the technique you used?

good squeezy squeezy! ~ I have no idea of best settings, I am clueless and hoping to learn something from this post :-)

I find that doing something with bold color helps for the composition. I use a tripod (usually), a darker room because with the long exposure you sometimes get your object looking like a ghost instead of an abstract.

I've done this a few times, not something I've really had much success with tho...

Eddie Izzard Dressed To Kill!!!! I loved it.

Here’s a couple I’ve done.
They are from very early in my project last year when I was trying to figure out how to use my manual settings!

@andycoleborn - wow, both of your photos are amazing!
August 24th, 2012
@jsilver Yes, it's a cracker!
August 24th, 2012
@andycoleborn Andy, I liked the one of the crowd.

@webfoot Paul - hand held, wow, I assumed the shutter speed was so low you would have to use a tripod or stand - but I guess as you are going to blur it anyway with the zoom, it is not that important?

@lisjam1 Nice, Lisabell!
August 24th, 2012
@flagged I like that. I had assumed it would always be with light, so this has pointed me in a different direction again!
August 24th, 2012
@m9f9l Yes, that's interesting.
August 24th, 2012
@kaynadog Very nice, Keith.
August 24th, 2012
@swilde I'm glad you've been inspired, Sue!

@abhijit Nice effect - would never have thought of buildings!
August 24th, 2012
@swguevin Nice one, Sheila.
August 24th, 2012
@peadar There were plenty that didn't look very good. Using my knee as a partial tripod also helped.
August 24th, 2012
Taking Paula's advice ( @brumbe ) here's another go.

August 24th, 2012
@peadar I like the use of color and the trails it makes. I say I take about 50 for every one that works out.

Wow! Loving this thread.There are so many really cool shots.Loving your wheel shot @andycoleborn (Guessing it's the London Eye?)
This was my only attempt,way back early in my project...

@godders That's nice, Paul, I like how the bag is pretty much in focus and the zoom teases out the edges of the image.

@momsta Nice shot, Michelle, have you not tried any since?
