Lightroom Export Settings

September 20th, 2012
Lightroom users, what are your Export settings? I just noticed that when I view one of my images large (on 365), the picture is actually smaller than the regular view. I've never noticed this because I just found out about the View Large option, lol. But I noticed that everyone else's pictures show big, but mine doesn't. So I'm curious what export settings I should use. I LOVE small file sizes though. I send my pictures to my friends through text message, and I use small file sizes to keep room on my phone and also because multimedia text messages have a file size restriction (on my phone anyways.) I like to keep my pictures under 300 kb. The average size of my photos range from 200kb - 250kb. I just don't want my new Macbook Pro to get clogged down with large files and have it slow down. I have a 500gb hard-drive, so what is actually a big size for a picture? And what are your Lightroom settings? Thank you!

I save small too, just because it's easier to upload to 365 and FB. I'm set to export at about 30% and I've never really noticed what's big in the mag and what's not.
341kb seems to be ok when magnified here

256kb is way bigger

@shutterbugger Thank you! Can you tell me your exact settings? and btw, I looked at your pictures, and they are great :)

For 365, my export setting is 1400 x 1400 (maintaining the aspect ratio of the crop). It's the smallest res I've found that still displays larger.

@izayaa Thanks :) The only thing I've changed on there is the save size. Unlike @humphreyhippo I'm scared to play with numbers for fear of messing things up!

In the option of sizing your picture I keep the long edge anything from 1,000 pixels to 1,500 depending on how much I have cropped the picture. I also keep the res. to 72 pip for Facebook and 365 exports. Obviously for my own records I keep them the original size at 300ppi.
