Okay this is a complete random topic of venting but..do you ever see this crazys claiming to have photography skills on facebook and "starting" a business?? Not to be rude or offensive, but nothing tees me off more than someone boasting about their photography when the most talent they have is turning it black and white. Ooooo big deal!! Someone I went to school with "has a business" and going through her shots is painful. Looking at some you have to literally tilt your head to the complete side to compensate for the mass camera angle she has taken it from....And you wonder why people pay for this stuff! People like this ruin the name of photography IMO. When is everyone going to learn its not the camera, but the person behind it?? Is it rude to laugh at this stuff because I can't help myself, ... ;) LOL
I know what you mean Tiara....it takes time and hard work to become a pro....not just a person who can click and go....but if that's what you want to do...that's fine....just don't call yourself a professional photographer. :)
I love taking photos, but don't consider myself a photographer. That's the reason I use this website; to get feedback on my photos and grow, maybe one day I will actually consider myself a photographer! I would never put my photos on Facebook purely because I always feel the same as you when I see someone posting 'instagram' crap or a black and white lawn chair under the album title 'My photography' :L
@veg66 It really does. I'm leaps and bounds from being anything great, and I'm not saying I am far above this person I'm talking about. I am just stunned that people fork out money for it
Well, some of them do it on here, too! And yes, I find it very annoying. Sometimes it’s the most confident ones that are the worst, too! I agree with what @godders said. There are fantastic photographers on here that are so completely humble. Good photographs speak for themselves.
@tabithasyear I agree 100% girl. This is merely my hobby and will always be just a hobby to me. Taking pictures vs photography are complete polar opposites.
what they are thinking is "I have a camera and I can press a button ...easy money" I am sure most of them find out quite quickly that this is not the case, the market place is so saturated with photographers some of which work for free for their portfolios that the customer can pick and choose who they want, if a folio is full of rubbish they aint going to get very far.
i dunno... not being on facebook and not seeing what you're seeing and all... but i looked at the wedding (unprocessed) photos of a friend... the photog was, i think a friend of a friend... and i just don't know what to think... many at awkward angles, even posed ones, that i just couldn't figure out what you'd do with... but i just figured that i am too narrow in my thinking and this must be the new "thang" and maybe they'll clean up pretty in post processing...
@shadesofgrey Oh my that was awesome! @tbats22 agree with you, but if I black and white some of my photos....maybe I'll be a photog too. LOL @godders too true! I'm just practicing, I have a job...I could only wish to have the talent some have.
@shadesofgrey I've seen that sight before with different photos- funny but sadly true.
@godders You hit the nail right on the head with that statement. In fact I find that true in any of the arts. The most humble and reluctant to speak are often the most amazing.
@tbats22 I think it's the inflated opinion of oneself that is perhaps the most annoying. Pictures are posted as if that photographer is an expert and yet you can see it in "black and white" or full color- they are not as good as they say they are. I have learned it's best to just go on to the next picture so to speak because they're not open to critique or improvement.
I totally agree with you Tiara. Some people just because they own a camera (particularly a DSLR) they have automatically become an amazing "professional" photographer.
This is why I do not consider myself a photographer by any means. I still have a lot to learn.
If they don't have talent, they will not be in business long. Don't equate not doing photos you like with not being able to take a photo that someone is willing to pay for. Not your style, don't worry about it and don't give them your business. Don't waste energy with negative thoughts.
There are some pretty awful professional photographers out there - and some of the worst offenders are wedding photographers. And the ridiculous prices they charge! I really have to be careful when someone shows me their wedding album and I feel like ripping the pictures up because they are so bad!
@if1 Sadly my wedding pictures turned out horrendous. 90% were blurry. Who knew she didn't know what she was doing with indoor flash since her outdoor wedding picture samples were amazing.

You are not alone......and neither is she.
