What did you get for Christmas?

December 26th, 2012
I was wondering what kind of neat photography gadgets you might have gotten for Christmas? I must have been a good boy since I got a Vanguard Altra Pro 264 AT tripod and a Vanguard SHT-100 ball head. Plus a new camera bag that gives me more room to keep my camera and lenses in. I can't wait to try out the tripod on long time and slow shutter speed exposures.
December 26th, 2012
@skipt07 - fun! Enjoy your new stuff!

I was thrilled to get a Canon EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM lens, and a jo totes camera bag.
December 26th, 2012
@rootbeer - Very cool Julia! You must have been a good girl!
I hope it produces amazingly sharp photographs for you!
December 26th, 2012
A bunch of filters and a 35mm prime that i had forgotten was on my Amazon wish list (my husband pretty much bought me everything on the list except an iPad). LOL
December 26th, 2012
I finally got a macro lens!! A sigma 105mm f/2.8 Thank you Santa!
December 26th, 2012
Black Rapid Camera Sling and a new tripod.
December 26th, 2012
i've already got a vanguard tripod and camera bag, good kit.

I got a Ricoh 500RF and bought myself 17 rolls of film off ebay, whoop!
Oh and also bought myself a Fed 4 rangefinder.
December 26th, 2012
@sarie - It sounds like you have a loving husband that pays attention :)
I hope you enjoy your new gifts!

@groovygirlrn - Very nice Sheri!! Let me know how you like the Sigma lens. I saw a Tamron 18-270 mm zoom lens in an ad in a magazine. It looks like it is half the size of my 55-250 mm lens.
December 26th, 2012
Karl Taylor DVD, better shots with your compact camera. Some very good ideas and tips.
December 26th, 2012
@michaelelliott - I saw one of those in a how-to video on YouTube. They look much more efficient and less restrictive then the standard camera straps! Enjoy Michael!

@chewyteeth - Sweet Dave! Enjoy that new camera!
December 26th, 2012
@godders - Very nice Paul! I hope it really helps to improve your photography skills!
December 26th, 2012
I got a Nikon D3200 :) thrilled!
December 26th, 2012
I got a canonscan 9000! I can't to start scanning my old negs!! /maybe now I'll even reacquaint myself with my old nikon fm and shoot some film!
December 26th, 2012
@steviemichelle - Super cool Stevie! Enjoy all the photo ops that lie ahead with you new camera!

@sunshinephoto5 - Sounds like you have some work ahead Dawn! Enjoy your new scanner and getting back to shooting film!
December 26th, 2012
A Canonscan 9000F showed up here too! Hoo Hoo for Santa!!
December 26th, 2012
I would have been happy with ND filter or polarizer filter, instead I got EF 16-35mm f/2,8 L II USM lens! Over the moon!!!
December 26th, 2012
@sassik - Outstanding! I can't wait to see your photographs taken with it!
December 26th, 2012
Oh, let me practise first! Took the lens for a walk today for the first time :)
Still thrilled!
December 26th, 2012
I got a brilliant Photography book from my eldest Pup, some paper-craft monsters from my sister, a dog walking book from my parents (addressed to Pig & Shit-Head), a very interesting card game and a chocolate tool set.
Oh, and a USB microscope that takes photos from Mrs Bulldog.

How lucky am I?
December 26th, 2012
@gphelps5 - I hope the Digital Photography book offers you inspiration in the days ahead! Is the USB microscope used for supermacro photography? I'll keep an eye out for some great macro work.
December 26th, 2012
I got a photo printer so that I can get some instant gratification in seeing my prints on paper. Not the best quality, though, ... definitely wouldn't replace getting professional prints for photos I want to display. Still, this present beat my present last year (which was a surprise painting of Highland cows -- something that I never would have dreamed I would get (or have to hang in my house, lol). :)
December 26th, 2012
ooh i got photoshop elements 11, and a book manual for it, a collins photography course book and my first dlsr from james on here
December 26th, 2012
Ed
*waves hand wildly*

A Canon 650D and a remote (update to my 450D) ... My wife was obviously listening when I said I'd document our 40th birthday year plus my 4th year on 365.
December 26th, 2012
I got surprisingly little camera kit. I got a set of Cokin filters and a case for them, but nothing else! Though my boyfriend and my parents are going to buy me the Lowepro Pro Roller x300 camera bag, as I have a bad back and I can just wheel that around! It went up in price just before Christmas, so we are waiting for it to come down again....

Wouldn't mind a new camera though - looking at having to spend £200 to get the focus motor repaired in my Canon 500D, which is where most of my Christmas and birthday money is going to have to go.

How about another question - what is the most boring thing you have ever spent money on for your camera/photography?
December 26th, 2012
@rockinrobyn - I assume your Highland cows painting is reminiscent of getting an ugly tie for a man :) I hope you enjoy having access to your photographs immediately Robyn!

@kmrtn6 - That is great Kylie! A good friend of mine got Elements 11 too. It sounds like you are going to be busy learning for awhile. Have fum processing the photographs you take with you new dslr!!

@edpartridge - Very nice Ed! Congratulations on hitting the big four-oh and 4 years on 365!

@cally - Ouch that would hurt putting out that kind of money for a repair. That is almost the price of a new camera.
There are a couple of low priced things that come to mind that I bought that were boring. I downloaded a poorly written e-book on photography and I joined a camera club that I was hoping would offer helpful critiques on bettering my photography or offered help on taking better photos.
December 26th, 2012
a macro lens, a off camera flash bracket and several filters including a polarizer. Wife did a good job filling my stocking.
December 26th, 2012
I got a number of things, but cannot wait to have a go with my new time lapse digital camera on my new Gorillapod, and read my Digital Photo magazine each month when it starts arriving!
December 26th, 2012
my favourite presents:

:D

but now "christmas is over!"

December 26th, 2012
@wadazomo - Looks like you married a good woman too Dave who supports your hobby! Enjoy the wonderful world of macro photography!

@seanoneill - Very nice Sean! I love to watch time lapse photography! You see more of nature then you ever realized was happening!

@tandem02 - Kathrin, you actually want to shoot the big guy?
December 26th, 2012
@skipt07 just the little chocolate version ;-)
December 26th, 2012
I got a Fujifilm X-E1. Tickled pink!
December 26th, 2012
*waves hand wildly, rocking back and forth* ooh, pick me, pick me!

Kinda off-topic because no cool camera gadgets for me, but I did get a sweet coffeemaker that brews a single serving right into a travel cup. It's pretty awesome, no more instant coffee for moi! :)
December 26th, 2012
I can now convert the purse, laptop case and camera bags into one. Such a thoughtful gift... a Kelly Moore Camera bag.
December 26th, 2012
I got this, how cool!! Might be classed as cheating as I get to set up the camera & then just walk away & leave it to it. Looking forward to seeing what wildlife I get to photograph. Maybe even the elusive deer
December 26th, 2012
My wonderfull wife gave me a 55-300 nikon lense!! so the hints worked..:-D
December 26th, 2012
I'm very excited. The Big Guy in the Red Suit dropped down my chimney a GoPro Hero3! The remote control provided lots of fun and games on Boxing Day with family members looking closely at it whilst I was firing off the odd shot or 30!!!
December 26th, 2012
Nothing photog here. I got slippers and a curling iron :-) Oh and a little karaoke machine that doesn't work :-(
December 26th, 2012
Jim
I was an extremely lucky boy this Christmas. My wonderful wife gave me Photoshop CS6 and then topped it off with a Nikon 105mm f/2.8 micro lens. Which leaves me under a lot of pressure to produce some nice images!
December 26th, 2012
I got candy
December 26th, 2012
@ladyjane - Very nice Jane! I hope! I hope the new camera gives you great results in you photography!

@kelsi87 - Enjoy your freshly made just for you cup of coffee whenever you want one Kelsi!

@cheribug - Very nice Cheryl! I wish I would have thought of that :)

@fjh - Fantastic Francesca! I am surprised my son-in-law doesn't have one of these. Besides I don't think it's cheating!

@markjohnstone - Ahh you have a great and thoughtful wife too! Enjoy your new lens Mark!

@bobfoto- Very cool Jason! It looks like you can have some serious fun with one of these.

@m9f9l - That's okay. Maybe you can work a photo into your project of some one doing karaoke! That is after you get it replaced.
December 26th, 2012
Jo
The iPad 4 (an upgrade from my Vintage iPad 1) which is use for editing, especially when travelling. And to keep in touch with my 365 buddies.
December 26th, 2012
@jcarrollphoto - Let's hear it guys for our thoughtful wives! You definitely are on the spot Jim! We expect only eye candy from here on in! Enjoy!

@jsw0109 - You can always work the candy into a HDR photo with Tabasco sauce Jeff! I know you got it in ya!
December 27th, 2012
@joluise - Super sweet Jo! I had thought at one time about buying a laptop to do my photo editing, but then I saw an ad for CS6 on an iPad that blew me away. Of course the guy that was doing it was an expert. I'd be all thumbs! I hope you enjoy your iPad!
December 27th, 2012
From Santa, Melody, Honi, Forrest, Spirit, Buddy and Spider got a Toyo-View 45CF (carbon fibre) large format (4"x5") field camera for trekking with Nikkor-W 135mm lens, Sirui Tripod, and a studio lighting set. The Toyo-Biew camera is second hand but in excellent condition.
@chewyteeth very cool
@rockinrobyn the real question in my mind is did you actually hang it or put in the store of pictures to be hung one day - alternatively donate
@michaelelliott now you will be competing with Spiderman
December 27th, 2012
@peterdegraaff - Wow you must have been super good this past year Peter!! Can't wait to see your studio work!
December 27th, 2012
@michaelelliott Oh you got one! Yay!
December 27th, 2012
Mom gave me cash, but said it was because she didn't know what kind of camera stuff I wanted.
December 27th, 2012
@janets - So what what is on your list of possible purchases Janet?
December 27th, 2012
@aspada - hahaha yes I was thinking about you and I bought my wife one too. Love it! You were right!
December 27th, 2012
@peterdegraaff - haha yes much smoother action as Amy as been telling me. Wow Peter you got some photo haul. I guess you were on Santa's good boy list!
December 27th, 2012
Canon 28mm f1.8 and Spyder4Pro
December 27th, 2012
For my joint Christmas and 21st present... a Nikon D600 & an 85mm f/1.8. Probably... no, not probably... THE best present I've ever received. And for myself I bought a camera bag from Etsy that isn't emblazoned with Nikon logos, so it's less obvious I'm carrying my camera gear around.
December 27th, 2012
@kynosmom - I am totally jealous. I have been thinking about getting a Spyder4Pro but didn't in case Santa brought me one. He didn't. Great gifts!

@oblique - Very nice Natalie! A new camera and a prime lens to boot! You definitely were on Santa's "Nice" list!
December 27th, 2012
Present to myself: 6d kit!!!!

Canon 60D! Huge upgrade from my T1i. I must have been REALLY good this year :)
December 27th, 2012
I got a remote for my camera, plus some attachment for my flash if using the remote. I got several filters, macro and ND and a few program add-ons. I will have to look up what they are. I got a handy tool carrier for when I am assembling the village, but I have temporarily used it to store my extra goodies until I can put them where they belong.
December 27th, 2012
I got a migraine...ruined the day pretty much.
December 27th, 2012
Sue
I got a course at the Australian Centre for Photography & a Joby camera strap & a Lexar 32GB memory card. Spoilt, yah!
December 27th, 2012
We give small presents in our family, so photographic equipment would not even have been on the list! I got some lovely kitchen goodies, socks and chocs. We had a fabulous day!
December 27th, 2012
Ed
Update .... (as my parents gave me their presents on the 26th). A ticket to the viewing platform on The Shard, the tallest building in the UK - expect a series of London landscapes in 2013 ...

And slightly tied in - we got my Father-In-Law a ticket to the British Grand Prix next year, and so he didn't feel alone I'm going along as well; so expect badly shot F1 cars at the end of June.
December 27th, 2012
I got a candle, a Photograph of all my children together, a jewellery roll, bottle of Baileys and loads of chocolate.
December 27th, 2012
My family and fiancee all threw together earlier this year and got me a joint birthday and christmas present - a driving experience at silverstone :)
December 27th, 2012
My sweet hubby spoiled me rotten with a 10-stop ND filter, case for my filters, a Kelly Moore camera bag, and a tablet to go in that killer bag! And my mom gave me a new Canon 50mm f/1.8!! So excited!!
December 27th, 2012
@cheribug I got a Kelly Moore Bag also (Two Sues in Raspberry).
December 27th, 2012
My kids blew me away with a ShootSac!!!! Couldn't believe it! My husband gave me a 50mm 1.4 USM lens for my t3i and some more memory cards! And today with some Christmas money and some of my own (and a 25% off sale) got two different sized variable ND filters (2-10!) by ProMaster. Not top of the line, but within my budget! Most important was having my whole family here together. It was a wonderful day.
December 27th, 2012
I got a very belated birthday present of a new camera strap from porteen gear.

And for Christmas, I got a 50mm f1.8 lens and a flash. :-D Only thing is, I don't really know where to start with using the flash. Any suggestions?
December 27th, 2012
@leigh7900 - I understand where you are coming from, but still a fantastic gift Leigh! I hope your new camera brings you much pleasure!

@sam_cr - I hope your Lensbaby Scout takes great wide-angle shots for you and you quickly learn to manually focus it Sam!

@shutterbugger - Very nice Jenn! You must have been very nice this past year. Enjoy your new camera!

@danette - I received a remote for my camera and I really like it! Have fun experimenting with all those new filters especially the NDs Danette!

@msk1p2 - I am sorry to hear the Sandra! I hope it is over and you can enjoy the remainder of the Christmas week!

@redpants - Very cool Sue! I hope you hone your photography skills through your course at the Australian Centre for Photography!

@victorypuzzle - The important thing is that you enjoyed you Christmas Domonique!

@edpartridge - Very nice Ed! We look forward to seeing your series of London landscapes

@kjarn - I wish there was a way for you to share the chocolate and the Bailey's with other 365er :)

@toast - Wow that is one sweet Christmas present Weng! Now you need a GoPro Hero3 to record the experience for the rest of us to see!
December 27th, 2012
@kynosmom - I was wondering, if you don't mind, if you would let me know if the Spyder4Pro makes much of a difference in viewing your photos. The reason I ask, as I said before, I had been thinking about getting one because occasionally a photo will print really dark compared to what I see on my monitor. A friend suggested I buy one. He calibrates his monitor weekly. I send out most of my prints to have them printed and I hate getting back something that looks nothing like what I see on my monitor. Thanks!
December 27th, 2012
@tryeveryday - Wow Michelle you definitely were on Santa's "Nice" list! It is so great to have a husband that supports your love of photography!

@phillyphotos - I never heard of a Kelly Moore bag until seeing then mentioned here. Very nice gift Paula!

@lynnb - You did really well for yourself Lynn! I hope you enjoy your new lens and filters throughout the new year!

@wormentude - Very nice Rachael! You can try looking on YouTube for video tutorials on flash photography. Here is a link to get you started. It covers a wide range of cameras so you can skip forward to the part that covers your situation. You can look around for other tutorials: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRoZwkTj74k
December 28th, 2012
@phillyphotos I got the same bag in orange...don't you love it!!!
December 28th, 2012
I got a Nikkor 105mm macro lens back in late august which was actually my Christmas gift, also got two 32GB SD cards and a Kelly Moore camera bag. Well the bag is actually my Birthday gift but I got to open it on Christmas!
December 28th, 2012
Silver Efex Pro 2 and a new ND8 filter to replace the one I cracked last month. It saved my lens, so I would willingly sacrifice the filter. Sounds like you were good this year.
December 28th, 2012
December 28th, 2012
@tanja_1211 - Sounds like you are ready for some serious photography! Happy Birthday!

@egad - Nice! I was in the market for software to use with CS5 and settled on Color Efex Pro4. I love b/w photography and have seen the ads for Silver Efex. Have fun processing your b/w photographs and using your ND8 filter! Glad to hear you lost a filter rather then a lens! Somebody thought I was good :)

@harsha - Very nice! Have fun with your new smartphone!
December 28th, 2012
@skipt07 When I get a chance to use it, I'll let you know.
January 4th, 2013
@skipt07 I finally calibrated today. I can finally see mid-tones and the colors are ssooo much better. As far as the dark prints you've been getting, it can be calibration needing done. It could also be where you have your photos printed. All photo labs are not created equal, especially chain stores. Or it could be both. So much to learn.
January 4th, 2013
@kynosmom - Thank you for getting back to me. I appreciate it. I took one of mine to Staples and they printed it dark. I tried on my own using Photoshop and it printed dark. Out of desperation I then tried printing it through Windows Live Photo Gallery and it printed fine. I hate to send it away and pay good money for something I can barely see. The frustrating thing is that I posted it as one of my photos of the day and not one person said that it looked dark to them. Thanks again! I think I will look into getting one for myself.
