Are we starting over?

January 2nd, 2013
So Question. Are we starting over again with the new year? I did it last year until near the end when I failed :( and am starting over again with the 365. I don't see when I click on browse latest that anyone has posted anything past Dec. So do we roll it out again for the new year?

Also, another question I have wondered all year is, is it not supposed to be a challenge where you take a photo every day? I noticed lots would use filler photos or every day they would post a different photo from a session they had just to fill up their 365. I think it adds more of a challenge if you must take a photo each day but was wondering if there was actually a rule on that?

Lots of people are posting 1 Jan 2013, I've seen hundreds. Maybe the script hasn't caught up with the "latest" feed.

Also, I don't think it's "supposed" to be anything except what you want to make it. Many people take on the challenge of one photo per day, no matter what; but most prefer to wait until they get good quality shots before posting. I personally think that if you resign yourself to posting one photo every day on the day it's shot, one of two things will happen; your quality will suffer, or you'll burn yourself out.

Bottom line; it's your project and you are absolutely free to do whatever you choose to do. :)

Hi April -

No actual rule, just whatever you want to challenge yourself to. My first year I shot and posted every day with the exception of about a week where I was gone and had no internet service or sick. It is VERY challenging to do this, but after having done it I felt a great sense of accomplishment. That being said, I do not intend to be so strict on myself this time around. Just enough to keep shooting, keep connecting with the folks here, and keep having a good time without stressing about it. cheers!

I know that is the intent. i also remember that improving photo skills is also a major objective. So, I do not mind people using "fillers" especially taken that same month or week. I used some fillers in 2012, but I worked with in PSE, so I increased my skills in PP. In real life most of us are pressing to find time to shoot once or twice a week. Since I archived all my pictures rom 2012 and before, I do not have direct access to them, so I will be better to follow my own plan as stated above.

@peterdegraaff Thanks, Peter--it's good to see you, too! :-)

@luvmy2kids0 365 is whatever you want it to be. I have people that only post monthly, the whole month all at once, which I don't recommend. Mostly it's daily shots. I've been lazy lately, I'm on year 2 or 3, I don't even know. But It's a fab place to learn. That's why I stick around. No rules, just the ones you make for yourself. Happy New Year! It does feel good to complete a year.

No rules...do what you want :)

Thanks guys! Yeah I was on here last year and I was doing so good right until the end when I just burned out. I was kind of disappointed with myself to go all year and then burn out at the end. I just lost inspiration of what to shoot! I wasn't using fillers till I saw someone else do it and they mentioned it was a filler so I asked them about it and they said that some use fillers when they have nothing for that day. Until then I was shooting everyday. I still tried to shoot everyday even after I knew that but I did use fillers but wasn't sure if that was against the rules or anything. This year I am determined to go all the way. THAT is one of my new years resolutions...lol

@grizzlysghost I completely agree. Great response!

My 365 album has been "pure" I used my camera every day and posted every day. I used my second album for themes, challenges and when I couldn't decide which photo to post for the day!
I have always enjoyed taking photos, and think I have improved over the year, especially by being involved in the Street Photography and Camera Settings challenges. They have been great.
I saved my third album for year 2 and beyond, but not sure if I will take a photo every day, will probably be a bit more flexible.
For anyone still learning about their DSLR, the challenges are a good way to learn, the hosts are very helpful and generous with there advice and expertise.
I'm looking forward to year 2!

If I take a couple of great photos, I might post them over a number of days - its not only about taking one every day, but also experimenting and learning about photography and sharing these successes (or not so successful) photos.

I posted every day religiously on the first year, I'm nearing the end of my second year now. I've missed a few and got out of the swing of things a bit, but if I gave up I probably wouldn't be shooting at all. The site gives me the kick up the butt that I need.

although not my first attempt at a 365 project, my first where I've jumped online and found this aid of sort where I can see my progress and hopefully learn from others along the way. (joined today)

Whilst I understand it will be hard I agree with @grizzlysghost where it is our own project and free to do what we choose.
Saying that I will try to shoot my year a fresh each day, but when days are tough and if I choose to use a filler I won't beat myself up for it - a freshly processed image is just as new as the day it was taken.

Have been busy doing things for everyone else and lost my photography.... time for me to it get back..... I'm hoping for more experimental than snap and shoots but either way....

@grizzlysghost - very well said. There should be a FAQ with your reply in it for everyone to read.

I love the email option into this & plan on using it with my smart phone to keep up when I may not be able to get to my computer and edit/upload.

I think setting myself a reminder during the day to take a photo will make sure I've considered & thought about it to upload. Making a new habit takes time- plus I have to remind myself to do things anyway...

@grizzlysghost and that is why I started an entirely new account after three months off. Now I post when I like my shot not because I have too. I guess we just have to call me unpure

I'm just a few weeks short of finishing my first year and couldn't agree more with Aaron @grizzlyghost. The thing I found that helped me the most was relaxing my own expectations just a bit, so that if life got hard or over-complicated, it was okay to post a "filler" shot - for me this always meant a shot taken a day or so earlier (so fairly recent/current). There were so many times that I had more than one shot a day that I could have posted so this never felt like cheating - especially since so many wise and sage folks before me stressed the "it's YOUR project" philosophy! In the long run, it was a fairly rare occurrence after all. More than anything else, though, feel welcomed to 365 and have a grand experience!

@grizzlysghost Hey... I know I said it was my last day but I got on here to go through one last time and had a few responses to my getting started guide....on that note, mind if I add your reply to it?

@dlaxton Going to put it in the getting started guide if Aaron okay's it. Good suggestion
