Haldex?

January 18th, 2013
My poor old Manfrotto tripod has finally started to collapse. I found a Haldex aluminium one yesterday which is light weight and cheap ($99) but I don't know anything about Haldex. Has anyone heard of or used one? All input appreciated.

no experience but I have an aluminum tripod and I love the light weight nature and its ability to not really shake in light wind and stick in the sand. My brand is induro.

I'm surprised your Manfrotto is giving in; those things are true workhorses!

@grizzlysghost Aaron you might know, my manfrotto tripod head slides easily off the top off the tripod, it never used to do this and I could carry the tripod with camera attached easily. I dont know, if I've done something to it or its just not locking somehow. the instruction book doesnt help. Any clues? I could send you a pic if you dont know what I mean.

Mine went all wobbly and I noticed it had some tiny little screws under some little rubber plugs that needed to be tightened. Perfect now!

@phillyphotos @grizzlysghost @kamb @monika64 Thanks guys...now I'm going looking for little screws. The top bit is just slowly letting go and sliding down between the legs.

@kamb Yep, periodic tightening is usually all that's needed to keep them in shape. @monika64 Regarding your issue, there should be some set screws under your tripod head that should be tightened down to make sure the head doesn't move; have you checked those? They may need hex drivers or similar to tighten them. If legs are collapsing, there is usually a nylon wrench snapped onto one of the legs that is used to tighten the nuts for the fasteners for each leg.
