Ok, we have been talking about meets in different areas, so I'm actually gonna start one. This is for all the southern California folks. How about a meet at the famous Descanso Gardens in La Cañada-Flintridge, CA? (La Cañada is just northeast of Glendale). Admission is $8 for adults, Seniors/Students $6, Children 5-12 $3. If you are already a member of the Los Angeles County Arboretum, your membership card is honored for free admission.
The date would be Saturday, April 10, from 9am-5pm and we would meet at the food court just inside the front gate.
The flowers that will be in bloom in April are: Azaleas, camellias, irises, lilacs, native plants and wildflowers, tulips, clivia, and wisteria. The rose garden won't be in full bloom until May, but there should be some early bloomers there.
If you are interested, reply below and we can get this show on the road! :)
I will have a 365 Project sign so you will be able to find our meeting area easily.
For you GPS capable people, here is the address:
1418 Descanso Drive, La Canada Flintridge, CA 91011. (818) 949 4200
Ooooh! I'll try to make it! I love these Gardens and have been meaning to get myself back there. And a photographer's meet up would be the perfect excuse!
Thanks Alex! I just checked with my husband and we'd love to join the group. It's a great suggestion for a meet-and-greet afternoon and some lovely photography! I look forward to meeting you all!
would love to be there, I loved my visit to California last year, the wife and I are hoping to get back there again one day - hope you guys have a great time
Alex, thanks for setting this up. Unfortunately, I'll be out of town that day. I'll be sure to check out the gardens on my own at some point... never been there. I look forward to seeing the beautiful pictures that come out of the LA Field Trip! Have fun, everyone!
If only it was closer!!! I plan to be in the LA area the first week of June. Please keep me posted if you plan anything in June! =) autumnseden@gmail.com
Just bumping this topic to remind all the Los Angeles folks that we will meet at Descanso Gardens this Saturday, April 10th, at 9am! You are all welcome to come out!
* JANUARY: Camellias, cherry trees and winter annuals
* FEBRUARY: Camellias, magnolias, cherry trees and daffodils
* MARCH: Camellias, irises, lilacs, cherry trees and daffodils
* APRIL: Azaleas, camellias, irises, lilacs, native plants and wildflowers, tulips, clivia, and wisteria
Great! For all of you who are attending, we will be meeting at the food court just inside of the main gate. Look for the
sign that will be in the area. We still stay there until about 9:30, and then we will start out. You can have your choice of staying as a group (I will be the tour guide), or you can explore on your own. Either way, you are welcome. If you get there late and want to catch up to us, call me on my cell at (eight one eight, six one three, seven one four two)... the weird format I just gave is to deter bot harvesters of phone numbers and other personal info... one can never be too safe.
Just saw this thread -- hope all of you have fun. Not too far of a drive for me, but babysitting a nephew for the weekend, so I'll have to live vicariously through you and wait for the shots of the meet up!
All of you in the region who didn't make it to Descanso Gardens today...you were missed because we had a WONDERFUL time, our small, but mighty, group! Ken & I recognized Andrea from her picture as soon as we walked up, and when Alex approached, we knew him by his picture, too. He was *The Best* tourguide, never rushed us, and had a myriad of tips & hints he shared. No one was at a loss for words and the day slipped by with delightful conversation & a lot of, "oh! look at this picture...!" I'd travel far to meet Alex & Andrea again any time, and hope to meet more of you next time around! What a *Great Day*!!!
I agree with Louise. It was such a pleasure meeting Alex, Ken and Louise. We all enjoy each others company and have a fabulous tour guide! I would travel far as well to meet Louise and Alex any time. I am looking forward to meeting more of you next time as well.
Thank you Alex!
