All of a sudden LR is telling me that new images on my Canon are already in the catalog and so cannot be imported... which they are not... at first i thought it was a card issue so i started a new card... but no luck... i also tried closing down LR and re-opening it... still no luck... images taken on my Olympus are importing just fine...
I did not have any issue when I uploaded a few pics to LR today so am afraid that I cannot help you at all.
Hope you get it resolved soon.

I don’t use Lightroom and this maybe a stupid idea but since no one else has offered suggestions yet, could it be an image numbering issue? When my camera switched over from image 9999 back to start again at image 0001 my cataloging program (Capture One) would load them but it started interspersing them with previous images already loaded. Is it possible Lightroom is seeing a new 0001 and thinking it is already there because there is another 0001?
@gardencat I thought of that…. But this doesn’t seem to be the issue as far as I can tell…. Last night I made sure I had LR fully updated and rebooted my laptop so I’ll try downloading pics from the canon tonight and if still not working will check back in the files again for those numbers…. Thx!!
@skipt07 tx Skip... i'll have to unpick those two possible solutions when i have more time and energy to work through the instructions...
@randystreat ... not sure? but i didn't do anything different from what i have always done... so it's completely baffling why all of a sudden it isn't working...
tx for all the suggestions... as i said above, will work through the posable solutions later... and in a pinch, will call adobe! 🙂 @jackies365
As a stop-gap measure could I suggest that you remove the tick to avoid duplicate uploads?
The other suggestion would be that you create a new catalogue preferably on another drive to your main catalogue. If this works you should then be able to merge this newly created catalogue with your existing one.
Have you tried to rename one or more of the Canon files and then try to import again? Give them a silly name that is unlikely to be in your catalogue :-)
@manek43509 nope - haven't changed anything... and LR is still working fine with my other camera...
@randystreat@helstor365@lumpiniman you guys are great 🙂!! but i do love how you think i automatically know how to do this stuff 🥴... cuz i don't! i mean, i know i can figure it out (i've done it before) but it requires more brain power than i have left at the end of most working days... anyhoo... will definitely save this thread and work through the suggestions on the weekend... thanks so much!
If you get the opportunity, have a look at this YouTube video; it covers importing into Lightroom generally but it does have some good points. If nothing else it is a good reminder for existing Lightroom Classic users.
