Went to the St. Augustine (Florida) lighthouse last night for a sunset/moonrise tour. Even though we didn't get to see the sunset or the moonrise due to cloud cover, I did get some decent pics. When looking at the pics from when it was dark, and outside of the lighthouse, I noticed some "orbs" floating around.
So, the question is how many people believe in ghosts, have been somewhere haunted, or have pictures of possible ghosts?
@herussell ~ I would say maybe you are correct about my lens or sensor, however, this and the other outside night picture I took are the only ones that have these "spots" on them. All my other pictures are "clean".
@jobesekama ~ Very cool picture...I can see the child. Still not sure what I believe, but love to see interesting evidence that coulod change my mind.
@meshinka ~ Many people who watch Ghost Hunters say that the St. Augustine Lighthouse was one of the "best" ones for evidence they have seen. We didn't hear or see anything on site...but there were a lot of people on my tour. I would love to go back and do some real paranormal research.
I have a good friend who is in a 'ghost hunter' team, and they discredit all 'orbs' in photos because they could be from a number of things- mist, bugs, dirty lenses etc.
@derapsj The orbs are water droplets in the air which are out of focus and are reflected by flashlight. You can even try it at home using water sprey near the camera and focus at infinity.
sure I believe in ghosts, energy is neither created nor destroyed, just redirected...and like Jason and Grant (TAPS) say, "a ghost is just a person without a body. "
I do believe in ghosts, no pictures. My mum (now no longer with us) was able to draw buildings that were no longer there. She was visiting Holland and was sketching a row of houses. Her friend asked her what she was drawing so she pointed at the houses- except those that she was drawing, were not the ones that were there. She and her friend went sourcing blue prints and found they were houses that had been demolished many years before (she'd never been to Holland prior to that.)
She did this in a few other places too.
I do not believe in ghost but wanted to say that I like your photo. I too have been to St. Augustine. I also visited that lighthouse and climbed to the top. But it was during the day.
@roth it's a shame "people" aren't "energy" then, or that idea might be worth consideration. Awareness of consciousness is generated by electrical activity in the brain; this we know, experimentation has demonstrated it. Electrical activity in the brain is fed by constant blood flow to it. No blood flow, no electrical activity (or "energy" if you must), no awareness. You are not some mysterious thing floating in the ether, you're very much attached to the physical activity in the brain, and when that stops, so do you*.
*As any and all currently available evidence and data shows.
Nope, not a believer. Every "paranormal phenomenon" has a rational - and usually quite mundane - explanation behind it. Doesn't mean I'm incapable of suspending my disbelief for the sake of a good bit of fiction, but I didn't reject one lot of silly mysticism only to embrace another.
Although the other explanation for "orbs" - that it's actually the camera flash catching specks of dust in a particular way, which is what creates the illusion that the orbs "move" between photos - always interested me.
@harley84 Oh my! What do you mean by you worked and lived with the spirits? Would you be so kind to elaborate a little... it's interesting to know. :-)
Not sure about the orb thing, it looks like there's probably a rational explanation for it, but who knows? Everyone is allowed their beliefs and I've caught some funky things now and again in my Project.
One, in particular, was in my first year. I've been back to this graveyard time and again and still can't figure it out, I even hesitated to post it at the time "just because."
Another, was this one:
The astronomy group I sent it to couldn't figure out and eventually catagorized as some sort of atmospheric condition.
@derapsj
i am open and accepting facts and science based explanation ...
but as far as what i have seen and experienced through my whole life about ghost ...
i can say that they are real ...
@eyebrows I thought that too, when I first looked and before I read your comment...two of the sticks with the strangely-shaped tops. I still think that the photo is spooky though.
I don't have examples in my 365 project yet, but I've used long exposures in a dark room while flashing a light very briefly on a person. Creates a great ghost-like image.
I do believe in spooks! (also channeling the Cowardly Lion). However, I do think that alot of things are written off as supernatural, that have perfectly logical explanations. Im definitely open-minded to it all, though. And, I don't have a ghost photo, but here's one of me playing a ghostie:
:)
@lisjam1 *curtsy* :P I'm a big fan of "Try your best to make the things you believe are real match as closely as possible with what's actually provably real" and my patience with sorts that aren't, at times, can wear a touch thin :P
@meggageg I'd go "pragmatic" over "harsh", but... yeah :P I've had enough debates over the years with people who refuse to believe the simplest and most logical/obvious of things, so sometimes frustration generates harsh-mode.
The graveyard photo's a perfect example. It is *blindingly obvious* that it's just two of those grave post things. There's no "maybe" about it, it just is what it is. And yet there's people going OMG IT'S A DEAD PERSON!!! ... I just despair. Why desire to believe in such things so strongly that you ignore reality?
It... also doesn't help when I'm writing these replies first thing in the morning :P I'm always in terse-mode at such times...
I heard of "haunted" forest in Romania turned into a paranormal senzation is called Hoia Baciu forest... opinions are split but there are some good sites on it
I believe in ghosts!! And While I have never actually caught one on film I have been to multiple haunted locations including Sloss Furnace in Birmingham AL
, Pensacola lighthouse in Florida
Sorrel Weed house in Savannah Ga
And New Bedford Armory in New Bedford, Ma...all of which have been investigated by paranormal groups, I think I bug my husband by wanting to see all the haunted locations in a place we go to visit LOL
@laceyjogautreau yo. we the lacies, homie. that means we be chasin' them ghosts all day ever day, all day long. AND THEN WE TYPE IN CAPS. carry on.
And on a serious (is this serious?) note, I do believe in ghosts. But orbs are exactly what Nod and Mr. Eye Brows said they are.
I've just had a lot of experiences that make me unable to NOT believe in ghosts. But to each his/her own. :)
@revjoel thank you for replying :) I'll surely try to find more info about it. After all South Carolina has a lot of interesting legends and a pretty troubled history so no wonder some souls are still searching for closure...
If you could hear me saying this, it doesn't sound as harsh as it looks in print. There's a amile in my voice. :)
It'll be interesting to see what others have to say or show about ghosts.
Very Cool.

Jesus christ people. It's not hard.

We never saw this with our eyes, and never noticed it through the viewfinder. Creepy...

What's more cool is calling me Eye Brows, that's pretty ace :D If you were a facebook page I'd totally Like you. oo-err!
@roth It's on the side right next to the e-meter!
