RAWCOMP 17

March 24th, 2014
Thanks to everyone that voted and entered in Rawcomp 16. Thank you to Lyn @ltodd for her wonderful image she let us play with.

For those of you who are new to RAWCOMP, the concept is pretty simple. The last winner becomes the host and posts a link to a RAW photo in dng format. Contestants download the image and edit using RAW editor only. The resulting file is then saved as a jpeg, submitted and tagged RAWCOMP15. The host then adjudicates on the edits and presents a selection for voting.

I chose a photo taken last year (before my sensor was cleaned) so there are a few spots to clean off... sorry. Here is the link to the RAW file:

The rules are:

"All editing must be done with a RAW processor , using no other software or plugins" - so either Lightroom, Adobe Camera RAW, the RAW processing software that came with your camera, but nothing else that does more than RAW processing - no NIK plugins, no compositions, no other editing other than RAW processing. This differentiates it from WWYD, where any editing goes. Cropping the photo is allowed but must be done within the RAW processor."

All entries must be submitted by midnight on March 30 and the finalists will be announced on March 31.

Don't forget to tag your photo RAWCOMP17

I look forward to seeing what you all come up with... have fun!

Here's an unedited Jpeg of the file:

This photo was taken in Provincetown, Cape Cod. The women on this building are fishermen's wives. If you are interested in reading more here's a link:

@ridley @iqscotland Wow, you were so quick, I posted that before going to bed and woken up to these. Thanks for playing, they look great!

@bella_ss Sheralee, haha. The reason is first of all you don't need to pick the perfect shot from hundreds on your memory card. It is ready for you to start editing. And then, it is so very liberating to edit someone else's picture. :-)

I'm always eager to edit a file in Raw Comp too...

My edit...

@bella_ss Sheralee, I have a couple of questions from my viewers for which I had to plead ignorance. Maybe you can help...

1. Where was this shot taken? Provincetown?
2. Who are the ladies in the picture?

Great shot btw. Full of character.

@ikamera Yes, that's right Kiran. I visited with a photography friend there last year and had a wonderful time. She told me the photos are of fishermen's wives. Laurie Higgins is also a local, I will tag her and see if she has more information. @lauriehiggins
