Actually took this photo a few months ago. I was in giving blood again yesterday, and finally posted it to instagram with an idea I've been bouncing around:
"I have a challenge I want to start. I want to see selfies of people giving blood! Go out, donate, and snap a pic to prove you did it! Not up to it? Donate $5 to blood services ( http://www.blood.ca/fundraising , or your country's organization) or round up some friends and take them to get poked and pose together. XD With hashtags #justanotherbloodyselfie or #jabs "

This is an awesome idea, Dawn. I actually used to work for the Australian Red Cross Blood Service, and used to donate plasma every couple of weeks. Unfortunately, there aren't too many opportunities to donate blood here in the country, but a monetary donation sounds like a good idea.
FACT: In Australia, 1 in 3 people will need a blood transfusion (including plasma and other blood product) during their lifetime. BUT - only 1 in 30 (!) will actually donate blood.
For those who haven't donated, give it a try! Make sure you have something to eat beforehand and drinks lots of water in the lead up. And don't worry about the needle - every donation can be used to save up to THREE lives.
I donate every 2-3 months, this is a fab idea! I just donated so won't be eligible to do so again just yet, but when I do I'll try to muster the nerve for a selfie!
Donate, peeps!!! It's easy, vitally important, and ya never know when you yourself might need a pint or two!
I am totally not a selfie person, but I had this idea as the whole "ice bucket" thing was winding down. The thing that bothered me about the ice bucket challenge was that the default action wasn't contributing anything to its cause (other than awareness). And there was a blood shortage here around the same time, so a light bulb went off. :)
I'm hoping this'll take off, but I really don't have a very big social network/much social clout, myself. I'd love if anyone who is donating could snap a selfie (even just of your arm, the bandage after, whatever!) and post to all your social media with the hashtags, and nominate friends! I figure if even one person who hasn't donated before, or who hasn't gotten around to it in awhile, goes in because of it, then it's a win.
I love this idea! The word play is so clever. i think I have to find a place to give blood!
I hope your idea spreads! Have you tried to get in touch with your national Red Cross? They might be in a position to bring this idea to a larger audience.
