WWYD183 Challenge Starts

June 30th, 2019
Thanks to @Etienne for hosting the last WWYD challenge and for telling me how to host this one.

The next round of the “What Would You Do” editing challenge is number 183. The WWYD challenges should push participants to try new skills and techniques. They are always fun, and I really want to thank everyone who participated and voted.

This base image was taken last fall in Minden, Nevada just east of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The foothills of the mountains are in the distance. Behind me is an outdoor wedding for a very dear friend. For some reason this tree captured my attention so I snapped it when the ceremony was over.

You can edit the photo in anyway you like. You can change it, enhance it, embellish it, add to it, take pieces away, use parts of it in another photo, try a tiny planet, or whatever inspires you.

Rules and how to play:
• Save the base image to your computer. Note: if you select “Sizes” in the right-side menu and scroll down to the original or large option you can copy/paste the https line to your browser or download.
• Go wild with any kind of editing techniques you like – anything goes! You can keep, or not, as much of the original image as you like.
• Upload to one of your albums and tag it WWYD183.
Come back and add to this discussion thread, to get it lots of exposure. You can do this by selecting “edit” at your photo.
To add your image in a reply, click on the arrow near your favorite and comment numbers on the image and copy the “embed” code, then paste into the reply.
You can enter as many variations of this image as you like.

CHALLENGE START DATE: July 1
CHALLENGE END DATE: July 22

This challenge is a great way to have fun trying out editing techniques, apps and online tools you have not tried before. Have fun with things like: horizon straightening, tone and color controls, healing tools, structure details, sharpening, gradients, filters, layers, dodge and burn, masks and textures.

We are looking forward to seeing your creations.

@etienne Your directions were so clearly organized. Thanks, they really helped. One question, how do you pick which go up for a vote? Is it subjective or based on favs or something.

Great starting image! Here's my first go:

@shutterbug49 As far as I know, there are no strict rules for selecting the finalists : it is your privilege as a challenge host to select the finalists, and you define your own rules. Some of us use only their subjective appreciation, some others also use the number of favs, PPs and TPs as an additional guidance in their choice process. When a person has submitted several entries, we usually select only one entry per person in order to expose more participants, but even this can be left to your appreciation.
