Abstract 60 Now Up and Running

December 30th, 2021
Wow! I was surprised to have been short-listed let alone win this tough challenge. A special shout out to Chris Cook @cdcook48 for hosting Abstract 59 and to Kali @kali66 who forced a tie breaking vote with her ‘Fixture’ photo. It was a close challenge indeed!

I find that abstract photographs can be both easy and difficult to do. It’s easy because there are no rules but difficult because this very freedom can also be intimidating. It is this idiosyncrasy that makes abstract photography so much fun!

According to Gintaras in ‘Camera Harmony’, the key to abstract photography is to keep your audience guessing at what you have photographed by manipulating the composition and perspective of your subject. You can also experiment with camera techniques such as ICM (Intentional Camera Movement), macro, long exposures, and soft focus to create unique photos of everyday items.

So embrace the challenge! Find objects that can illicit mystery. Look for shapes that will make a statement against a stark background. Play with contrasting colour. Break every rule in the book. But, most of all; be willing to experiment! Who knows what lays hidden in your view finder?

I have included some links you may find helpful for this challenge.
