I have loved doing all the BW processing for FOR2024, but then don't we enjoy the Rainbow even more when March rolls around?
Whether you’re new to 365 or not, I hope lots of you will join in again this year 😊
This is a really popular challenge and a lot of fun.
So here’s what it’s all about...
The challenge lasts for the entire month of March.
If you choose to follow the traditional rainbow:
Each day of the week has a colour of the rainbow – Mondays are red, Tuesdays are orange, Wednesdays are yellow and so on. The table below will show you which date and day of the week matches each colour, and lining them up vertically like this is what most people do, but your images can also go diagonally if you prefer.
My table has purple for Saturday and pink for Sunday, but you can go with indigo on Saturday and purple/violet on Sunday, the choice is yours!
I've given you the pattern here for both the traditional and the alternate diagonal rainbow.
I usually set myself some kind of a theme each week just for funsies, but that is not necessary at all. I can announce my themes here is you would like to see them and take them as prompts (I haven't decided on them yet!)
Remember this is your 365 project, so make any variation on this you like. Just have a colourful lot of fun!
Tag your images rainbow2024 and once we start posting on March 1st, you’ll be able to see them rainbow2024
The links below will show you a few of our previous year’s finished calendars and discussion threads so that you can get inspired and learn more about the challenge. Have a little look and get inspired as the variety of images that come through this challenge are amazing.
This is a really fun and cheerful challenge and it’s a great way of unleashing your creativity and getting inspired 😊
There won’t be weekly prompts for this challenge, but if you’d like to be notified when the thread for our finished calendars is posted at the end of March – comment below and let me know!
Rainbow March is always a fun follow up to Flash of Red February. I'm not sure which pattern I'll follow this year, but I think there will be a lot of Annfoolery involved!
I would love to take part in this challenge. Last year Susan @wakelys did a month of complete rainbows instead of an individual colour each day. I loved that idea so I would like to try her idea this year if that is okay.
Hope you don't mind me copying your idea Susan.
Do I still tag it rainbow 2024 even though I am doing a complete rainbow?
@onewing@koalagardens thank you much for highlighting my last years rainbow month. Babs I look forward to seeing what you do. I don’t see it as copying just collecting creative ideas. 🌈
@wakelys Thanks so much Susan I was so impressed with your calendar last year that I have been planning mine for a year. I've seen rainbows everywhere. ha ha
@koalagardens I don't normally take part in the challenges, but I did the FoR one a couple of times and I love the rainbow one. Can't wait to start this one.
My dad's orchid blooms are starting to fade. I took some "pre-rainbow" pictures on my iPhone in order to have a photo with the color pink. I have never completed the full month, but I have had a lot of fun looking for things with the appropriate colors.
I don't do the rainbows myself, but I like to look at everybody else's colourful calendars!
@onewing, are you familiar with Rainbow Walks? The way I first knew of them was collecting physical things, but I did a photographic one this past September. It was fun and it might be a helpful idea for one of your full rainbows, if you're ok with a collage vs single shot!
I just settled on my themes for the weeks, feel free to follow or ignore
1. everyday items
2. flowers
3. abstract
4. one subject colour manipulated
5 macro filling the frame
@boxplayer
last year I did a week of book cover macros and another vinyl record macros and it was really fun!
Hope you don't mind me copying your idea Susan.

Here is the calendar of rainbows from last year where every photo has the rainbow in it - that's a challenge!
Susan's calendar from 2023
anyone can feel free to post their calendar from last year to show off ideas here too!
Can't wait for some Annfoolery!

@onewing @wakelys What a fun idea to do a rainbow of colors all month.

Are you embedding daily words or other themes into your month?
Have you done that in past years?
Feel free to post link to any of your past month results of favourite rainbow months to help others get excited and creative!
Last year I ran some fun weekly themes and ended with this calendar.

Last year I did:
Natural world
Food
Books
My cushions!
On the street
I'd be interested to hear of / snitch any ideas from anyone!
