I was just looking back over my album and noticing how my style if not my technical skills has become more defined over the course of my project, and I thought wouldn't it be fun to see everyone's first and last photo from their 365 project to see how this project has improved your photography and/or skill as an artist?
I'm kind of astounded at the horrid little snapshot of the view from my balcony from my first day compared to today's pic - a somewhat daring self portrait! Let's see your first ever pic and your latest one side by side!
PS: The trick is to paste the separate codes for each photo into a word doco, then copy the whole thing into this thread together....
@peterdegraaff@megane@jannaellen@smevvy Ok, so one thing I'm noticing already is that with the excetion of @alk1991 (who was already kind of out there from the start!) is that we've all seem to have discovered Photoshop or some kind of post editing program during the course of our projects. For me, that's actually become my fave part of taking pics! Thanks all for contributing!
If there is one thing I've learnt since being on 365....don't just take 'a photo' think about it first! Started my project on Facebook then moved over here (I think) during September. I could be wrong, but I think my photos since joining are much better!!!
My computers not letting me open up a word document right now, so I'm going to mess up the program and post two seperately. Here's the first, from waaay back at the beginning *cringe*
From the first week or so of my project - shot on my phone. About everything about this photo is wrong:
My latest picture - shot this weekend on my SLR with my new nifty fifty :)
Yeah. I've gotten a little better. ;) Frack that. I've gotten astronomically better. When I think about where I was as a photographer at the beginning of this project and where I am now? I am proud of me. :)
amazing... look at the last picture i have...it certainly looks like that "horrid little snapshot of the view from my balcony from my first day" from Tabitha. i guess i improved enough to at least look like your first day effort! :D @tabbycat
Both of them are shot in Philadelphia. Day 1 is of our annual New Year’s Mummer’s Parade and was just a quick snapshot (did not realize I was starting this project until the 3rd.)
Today is Day 348 and is of another city shot, but of a building being constructed. What is funny is this is also a snapshot from my office window because we are documenting milestones of construction. I went with some editing software and touches I did not even know about a year ago.
@tabbycat Thanks for comment and feedback. Interestingly the first photo had more processing than the second. The first was taken of moon with iPhone on summer solstice in December last year, manipulated in Instagram, then colour corrected and brightened a bit in iPhoto. The second was taken with Olympus PEN and slightly corrected in Aperture for colour. Have always liked to play with software, but often prefer minimal processing when possible. Like the work you have done with nudes, and I noticed a comment you made somewhere along the lines that you haven't really lived until having shot a nude selfie. The world might have to wait just a few days longer!
The first photo I took after I started 365... I "backfilled" for 2 days to make my start date be 1 Jan. I was trying to do something "artistic" with this... EPIC FAIL!! I may edit this and re-post it this week...
The last photo I posted (I still have to upload for yesterday and take and upload for today).
@peterdegraaff LOL! While doing nude selfies is certainly very liberating, I say "You haven't lived until you've ......" about a lot of things! I love pushing myself and others out of our comfort zones! They say life begins at the end of your comfort zone. I certainly found that to be the case when I conquered my fear of sharks by learning to SCUBA dive! Wow - what a trip!! I'll be waiting at the foot of your project with a hot cup of tea and bated breath! ;-)
@tabbycat Sharks! Was snorkelling in Galapagos when a three metre reef shark swam about four or five underneath me and my 13 year old son in deep water. Made my blood cold. When we got back into shallower water, about ten foot, we noticed there were a pair of reef sharks asleep on bottom, so we took it turns to duck dive to have a look. I like my chai with no sugar, but prefer espresso!
@peterdegraaff Oh, so I have to bribe you with espresso so you'll get your gear off then? Well, I hope you accept the e-variety? Three metres! Sheesh! You sure it was a reef shark? Sounds more like a great white to me! I did a shark feed on the Great Barrier Reef with about 30 or so grey nurses, bronze whalers and reef sharks milling around. That was pretty adrenaline-buzzing, and my hat went off to the divemaster who was brave to enough to get right in the middle of them to release the tuna heads, which they then frenzied over like mad things!
@steveh@shortperson2002 LOL! It's really funny to hear everybody cringing and Eeeek-ing at their first pic! What a great site, huh? Free (or $20/year for Ace membership) is about the cheapest ever photography workshop I've ever heard of, eh?
A great thread – It is so interesting seeing how much everyone has developed. This thread is incentive enough to keep going when the going gets tough. :D
I only need to go as far back as my day 49 for a *cringe* comparison... haha!! :D
Day 213 – uploaded today. I have learnt so much about so many things:
@russianblue Aawww! I'd go out of my way to GET sick if it meant having an excuse to cuddle with a gorgeous hairy pumpkin like this one! I hope you get well soon, though. Sounds like you could use a chiropractor to bump up your immune system!
I would not have been able to take this 8 second bracketed shot with no light to my eye without practice and seeing the tips and shots from this site. Many fellow photographers now seem like old friends.
@tabbycat This is a wonderful idea and it's amazing and inspiring to see such improvement. I haven't been with the project longer enough to have improved, but I'm learning!
Because of 365, I've developed an eye for unique subjects and perspectives. I started the project using my iPhone 3G, moved on to my old Coolpix S220, and have recently upgraded to the iPhone 4S. I continue to yearn for a "real" camera, but in the meantime, the 4S is awesome!
One of my first photos.
A friend had contacted me about this photo telling me I could do so much more if I edited it. At first I was a bit offended but I took the criticism as a growing opportunity and learned a bit about editing photos. I took this photo with my iPhone 3G.
A recent photo. I used Photoshop Express. Photo was taken with my iPhone 4.
@coosie Eeek!! I dont wanna know! LOL! It gets down to about 40 here overnight in winter, 55 average daily winter temp and that's bloody cold enough for me!! :-O
@coosie at Cradle Mountain about an hour's drive away it does! Of course, I've lived in places where you can wear shorts and a T-shirt all winter long. Now, THAT's my kind of winter!
Both are by no means a reflection on any of my photography..unfortunately!

@jannaellen Wow!! I have yet to try custom shaped bokeh. LOVE your reindeer! Beautifully done collage!
I have thoroughly enjoyed making myself look for a picture each day so much that now I see a photograph everywhere I look.
@otprofsp I know what you mean! Thank you 365 for giving me a new career!! :-)
Better composed, better lit sleepy child last week
