We were in Milton Keynes shopping centre today and spotted this fund raiser for the local hospice. I'd never seen one before. You slip a coin into a guide device at the top of a highly glazed ceramic ( I think ) dish. The coin rolls round and round the dish, finally falling into the hole in the centre. The coin we put in is near the top left centre of the picture.

I've never seen a ceramic one of these before; it's beautiful! When the boys were small it seemed like every place we went I had to give them pennies to put in these and I hadn't noticed that they had vanished. The boys would put one coin each side and race them. But then when it got really fast at the end they would either crash into each other, or they would loose track of whose coin was whose! Those were plastic vortex cones over bins, nothing like as lovely as this.
