It's been raining most of the day here and the only outside I've been is the garden. I spotted these pushing through my neighbour's fence and found some at the back of our garden as well. I have absolutely no idea what they are and I don't remember any flowers that were growing there earlier in the year. Whatever they are, I suspect they're poisonous. The stems are growing from a base of strap like leaves. Can anyone put a name to them?
Edit 28-10 I took another look this a.m. and worked out they're the seedheads of a Flag Iris.

Thank you for looking and commenting - as always, much appreciated. Thought you might like to know I took another look this morning and have worked out that they're the seed heads of a Flag Iris. I found another one on a plant I'm sure is an Iris because I spent ages - unsuccessfully - trying to get a shot of it when it was flowering!
I didn't read your blurb in full, so missed the last line. And I concluded they were an iris as well, so that's confirmation of sorts. If it is the yellow flag iris it will grow from seed very readily, but if you already have it in the garden it is quicker to just grow it from a spare bit of tuber.
@tsteall@bigsusan55 Thank you :-)
The irises in our garden must have grown from dropped seed - we didn't plant them. They were a lovely accident - they're delicate shades of lilac and brown. I thought only bearded irises came in those colours.
sorry I can`t help you but the pic is very nice
