Green man in winter by dulciknit

Green man in winter

Today is the day of the Winter Solstice in the Northern hemisphere, when daylight time is at its shortest. From now on the days will be getting longer. It's also the day of the pagan festival that marks the re-birth of the sun, so here's one of the Green Men who live in and around our house.

He's as straight as I can get him; the block he's part of is not square.

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend and gets chance to take a bit of time out from all the Christmas preparations. Hugs xx
I do like your Green Man - he's certainly an interesting part of your culture in England. Nice detailed photo.

I love him! The days are sure dark and dreary - it's so good to know that we can look forward to longer and longer days from now on!

I don't know a lot about the tradition of the green man but what little I have read makes me want to find out more. Yours is a very handsome fellow! I'm really intrigued that they got built into churches and abbeys.

Great job on the display and excellent detail. I remember him from awhile back and was fascinated by the story. Love the birds huddled in between.
