Critique welcome. Veteran 365er, 2011 vintage. Only posting occasionally and irregularly now.
I'm an abstract photography enthusiast but not exclusively so.

Love that single tree and how you framed it in between the stripes of lavender/grass and those two tracks in the field.Beautiful natural tones!
The vertical aspect works great The only thing that I would do differently is the crop.I would try cropping out a bit of the lavender in the front and leaving just enough of it to repeat the single lavender stripe in the middle ground. That way the tree would remain the main point of interest. Now I feel the front lavender a bit distracting.
But that's only my taste.Hope you didn't mind my critique.
Still fav for the great complimentary tones, use of lines and very natural look!Fav!
@my_photofun Thank you. I don't mind in the slightest, Darinka, I welcome constructive criticism. I took the shot into picmonkey and experimented with the crop, taking off the very lowest layer of the lavender. I agree with you that the result makes the tree the main point of interest very effectively but that wasn't really the effect I was after. The sapling is there to complement the layers rather than the other way about. But I very much appreicate the time and trouble you have taken to give such thoughtful critique on my work. Thank you and for the fav too.
@craftymeg Thank you for the suggestion, Margaret. As mentioned above, I really wanted the tree to complement the layers of the lavender rather than the other way about but maybe it is *too* prominent in the composition. I appreicate your critique, it is helpful to hear what others think.
Lovely layers, the corn colour is beautiful against the lavender. I feel the tree is not in quite the right place. If the shot was landscape not portrait then the tree would be on the rh side and not so prominent. I can't quite put my finger on it but for me the tree doesn't quite work and I don't know why, I think maybe the top is getting lost in the sky. Just my thoughts, generally it has a great summer feel.
@jennywren thank you, Jenny. Hmmm, I think you may well have put your finger on it with your observation re. the portrait vs. landscape format. Lester and I have not long got back from a trip to the field and I did take a couple of landscape shots but the light wasn't at all nice and I wasn't happy with the comp I'd got on those!
I think I might have another go sometime, this is bugging me now. :-D
@beckys Thank you, Becky, I'm glad you like it.
The edit suggested makes a nice composition which features the sapling.
However, I'm going to have another go at shooting this and if I can get it to be more about the layers, which was what I was really aiming for, I'll post the revised version.
@paulaw Thank you, Paula, that's really kind of you to say so.
Yes, the suggestions are very good and would indeed work very well if I'd wanted this to be about the sapling but the real problem here is I wanted the shot to be about the layers. From the feedback I've received, which has been very helpful, I've learned that what I've actually achieved is a shot that looks as if I wanted it to be about the sapling and didn't give it enough prominence.
So it's back to the drawing board (aka Hitchin Lavender) again and have another go at getting this the way I want it. Prayers to the God of Photography for some nice light before the lavender's past its best. :-D
See you soon;0))))
Yup, not long now, YAYYY!!
