Table Mountain: dressed up for the party

Some weeks back I posted a picture taken at this spot ... during the day. http://365project.org/eleanor/365/2010-05-31

I thought you'd enjoy the night-time view. The flood-lights are only used for special occasions though, because of the massive electricity/energy usage.
love it! first you don't understand what it is and when you read your comment it's a fantastic capture.

That is so cool. I went to the top of Table Mountain 2 years ago. I never imagined it could look this different. Very very very cool!

These are special times and Table Mountain has a right to "dress up". And Cape Town itself looks pretty, too. Good luck on Sunday, I assume most people will cheer for the Netherlands.

That is impressive. Those are some big lights! The city is also aflame with light! Nice caption. Do they every change the colors of the lights?

@Mirmax ... Thank you. I felt for you last night as the German team left the competition. We have a lot of respect for them, and particularly in the way they handled themselves in defeat ... none of the histrionics that we so dislike in others. Impressive men! I think there is a bigger support for Neatherlands than Spain on Sunday because they have has so many more supporters in the country, and many of us have met them. Also, because most of us speak Afrikaans, a language of Dutch origin, they don't seem as foreign as the Spanish! Either way, it's been wonderful hosting them and we've had a great party. (Now time for the clean-up!)

@Joe ... in answer to your question about colour lights, at one stage it was tried, but I have only seen "plain" lights in recent times.

Amazing, for some reason, the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" come to mind. Is a space ship about to land!

Wow! What a sight that would be from the city below! I love the way you captured the city lights and the dramatic lighting on the mountain. It's nice to know that it's appreciated and shared for the expense the city went to!
