The Montebello Design Centre is one of Cape Town’s best kept secrets with over twenty arts and craft studios and workshops, a historic greenhouse and nursery, a forge, and stunning restaurant and organic deli farm shop. It's in Newlands, Cape Town, at the corner of Dean Street and Newlands Avenue, and is the result of a financial and property bequest by Cecil Michaelis. The Project is situated in the farm buildings of the historic site of Montebello.
I love the outdoor gallery of wooden carvings. There are life-size and tiny items. Mostly fairly rough-hewn and worked to retain the original wood's own character. And everything is outside under the trees. Most Capetonians know the "Gardener's Cottage" restaurant - but much nicer is Kwalapa Organic Foods which has a small menu. It's under a Bedouin tent and I suggest you plan your visits for warm, sunny days.

@mirmax I do actually work in the touism industry - but not for Cape Town. It's an absolute instinct to want to share the beauty and interest of this magnificant place. There's good reason that most "Must See" travel lists will have Cape Town in the top 10 destinations world wide. It's a magnificent place to live. Would love you to visit!
