"MJ" Cassim has worked as a vendor at Newlands (cricket & rugby) for 47 years. He's one of the iconic characters of the sport spectator's scene. His voice arrives before you see him - welcoming the spectators and shaking hands with those he recognises. His repertoire of jokes is very "Cape" and parried with typical local wit.
Chatting at the SA vs India cricket test he told us proudly how he has photos of himself with all the famous South African sportsmen, and carefully recounts the successes of his four children who are in management positions in retail or professionals. He's such a character that a local business sponsors him with specially embroidered clothing and a monthly salary.
