One of the reasons I love rowing is that (certainly at school level) schoolgirls compete in the same disciples and distances as the boys. I watch these young ladies getting on with rigging their boats, rowing the hard yards and having an enormous amount of fun and my heart sings. They are strong, fit, independent and empowered. It's a gorgeous combination.
