Black-headed heron

The bird book says "More often seen stalking through open grassland than around water". Indeed - that's where I spotted this one. And it's a funny stalking action, with the neck bending into a pronounced S with each forward step.

@glyn Actually down on Soetvlei Road - I've also seen them on the M3. I'm always amazed at how still they stand.
