It's a long, hot slog in the sun as South Africa enforced the follow-on at Newlands today. Sri Lanka only managed to get 239 runs, seriously short of setting to target after South Africa's opening innings of 580/4 declared. And so the Sri Lankans return to the crease.

I spent the day following cricket too but only on TV/radio. Australia declared at 4/659! How do you follow form in test cricket? It is exciting to though as you never quite know how a team will perform.
@hown Howard - Cricket and Baseball are not that dis-similar. It's a game of bat and ball - the one team throw the ball at members of the other team who hit the ball away, and then run. This form of cricket has two sessions for each team, and when the second team get 200 or more runs less than the first team, the rules allow a follow-on (which happened today). This means that instead of the first team starting again, they ask the second team to start again. In theory it's a way to create a better competition for the spectators. This form of cricket is played over 5 days(!) so keeping the spectators engaged is very necessary!
@cmt2812 Kate - I'm usually only engaged in cricket when I have the opportunity to go to the grounds to watch. The TV will be on all day (we have live coverage) and all night as the India/Australia game comes through and every time I walk past I'll stop a moment and catch up - but I can't just sit and watch endlessly.
Wow! What a beautiful shot of the field and especially love the framing with the beautiful sky!! Beautiful art, here! Nicely done! Thank you, also, for your vote on the family theme!! You really made my day.
