Considering the option

I offered to join a Covid19 vaccine trial and went along for screening this morning. We'd all been emailed the 27 pages of terms and conditions, and as the only one who had pre-read the document, I was ushered in first. Before we began I asked the only question that bothered me : The trial is for two years and I may not have another vaccine in that period. If a commercial vaccine becomes available and I've had the placebo, will I be able to leave the trial to have an official vaccine? The answer was simple : No, I will not know if I've had the placebo, and no, I will not be able to have another. (PS, and yes, there are going to be various other commercial vaccines available soon). So I said "thanks but no thanks" and left. With my career I cannot afford to keep myself distanced from a vaccine for that long, despite the public good of helping the research.
It sounds like you made the right choice. I like your picture that tells a story.

I would have made the same; really interesting picture!

I would wait for the real vaccine, even though in most trials only 20–25% are given the placebo here in the states.
